RRC EFI 3,9 first crank after rebuilt

What upset me is that the air don't seems to go throw the cylinders but only at the rear of the heads as if i had a leak near the water port...and it makes a" bubble sound", dont know how to explain it. For instance I torqued the heads to 60 NM, not yet to 90 NM.

RRC EFI 3,9 first crank after rebuilt

HI, I 've just put back my Heads (with spark plugs) with a new gasket (Elring composite). When i turn the crank , I need 40 NM torque and even more after first move, and i can hear compressed air coming out almost at the rear of the heads ... Is it normal ? Valves leaks ? video here...

Classic rover V8 cylinder head height

arrived today , very good quality indeed ! it's not a composite but called "soft metal"...may be the same. It's 1,4 mm (less one time compressed) and 0,15 mm more near the outerside of water hole (red line) , that s a great evolution because of the often leaks on this part, almost for my heads...

It s a non suffix B so it 's the "classic" torque sequence with standard bolt.

Classic rover V8 cylinder head height

I have more than 0,05 on the 2 ends, my head is bowed at the center.ARP are too expensive and i 'm not confident with streched ones. I should use a composite gasket with new standard bolts...

Classic rover V8 cylinder head height

I don't have enough material to mill thurther. I could try to straighten the head on the block with only the ends bolts and a A4 paper under the middle head...then I check the gap with my 0,05 mm gauge .

I read a lot of leaks at the ends of the heads (near water holes) even with elring composite HG ...frighten me a little.

Right i should change for Composite HG , and reuse my standard bolts...there still in good shape and not overtightened the last time.

Classic rover V8 cylinder head height

i checked the head flatness with a special tool (300 mm ruler grade 00). All is under 0,05 mm gap EXCEPT the two ends where i found 0,08 mm difference (red part on the pictures) when I take the measurement with 300mm length of the ruler (from the center to the end) If i take the measure with...

I put the wrong photo. For a non suffix B engine its 23,9 mm and 63,5 mm . I get 23,30 and 62,80 with my vernier caliper...with 0,1mm precision ;)

Classic rover V8 cylinder head height

Hi, after surfacing my heads (to clean the old gasket marks) i found these measures : 23,30 mm (+ 0,1mm / 0,5 mm max. skimming ) 62,80 mm ( + 0,2 mm / 0,5 mm max skimming) Should i put a thiker composite gasket instead a metal one ? the gap can be fill with shim on rockers ?

    surfacing cylinder head joint surface

the heads were already skimmed 10 years ago.I check with a plate and 0,05mm gauge, seem ok. i have to sand the inlet manifold too... should i stay with 400 paper or finish with 800 ? i have a metal gasket. Thanks.

    surfacing cylinder head joint surface

the old seal has left marks...do i need to remove all before setting new gasket ? I use sand paper on a glass to remove these marks but i dont want to remove too much material; Is that enough like this ? Plus, I notice i remove more on the sides than in the middle , the head is not perfectly...
