    Doors

Anyone interested in a brand new Def 90 safari rear door skin in Ali? I have a brand new one that is unwanted and still in it box..... Easy enough to fit by tapping over the edges around three sides and using the right adhesive/bonding. I bought an entire set of three new doors from SP Panels in...

    Wiring wipac woes.

I renewed every light on my Def TD5 2001 a month or so ago. I used Bearmach brand for indicators and front side lights and bought the following stop/tail LED ones. I left the indicators all as standard and the relay but with higher output bulbs in them. The front side lights i used LED...

    Def 90 fuses for indicators

Sounds like you need an auto electrician on it. If your battery goes flat it sounds like you have a short somewhere. If the hazards or the dash time clock have a problem it will drain the battery as they maintain a live feed from the battery all the time so both will keep working with the...

Best thing you bought for your Defender

Ha, i wonder how many Defenders have their gearbox's taken out and recon'd at 60k miles. I do agree with thoroughly greasing up the turret on the gearchange though as it makes for a nicer smoother gear change and it will stop wear as well. My gear stick used to buzz and rattle when driving...

    Is My Brake Servo Carped?

I had Servo issues too and next to no brakes and all the checks mentioned were done on it. I decided to do the whole job and renewed the servo, master cylinder, all four callipers/discs/pads and all brake flexi and copper pipes plus four new wheel bearing for good measure too. Not cheap to do...

    Doors

I bought two front and a safari rear door from SP-4x4.com and they fitted well in place of the old tatty ones. I also got a full window seal set for the two fronts and the rear came with a HRW already in it. I added new handles and striker plates and lock barrels at the same time and greased all...

Best thing you bought for your Defender

Yes, but the short movement between gears is lovely and slick. Its now like a saloon car gear change and a lot quicker than when it was standard. It also allows you the chance to add lots of grease and new nylon stick ball cup and to renew the anti rattle sprin and cup that sits in the hole in...

    How bad is this chassis!!???

The AMC head is from Turner Engineering and costs £1315 with valves and springs. On top of that are the new head bolts, head gasket, other manifold and cam cover gasket set, a few new studs/bolts, an engine oil change and new filters x 2, new OAT coolant for the rad plus fitting by the...

    Play in gear lever

You can find excellent explanation videos on Youtube for fitting the Slickshift gear upgrade. It will help you understand all the bumf in my comment before. All i can say is its an excellent upgrade and it removes all the sloppyness and the huge amount of travel between gears. It makes a...

    Wiring wipac woes.

You can get new bulb holder and wiring for Defender side and stop/tail lights. When they rust inside they keep blowing bulbs and are so cheap its silly not to renew them. Look on EBAY for them. My rear ones were rusty and blowing bulbs so i did them all and no more blown bulbs now. A previous...

    One less oil leak…..

Check the rear of the cylinder head for a gasket leak. It then runs down the engine over the gearbox and drips off the bottom of the box.... I had this and blamed it on the clutch oil seals to the engine...... An expensive and incorrect assessment by me.

    How bad is this chassis!!???

Just had a galvanised chassis fitted to my 2001 TD5 90. Its around £4,000 fitted. I also had the A frame ball joint done and new brake pipes plus new rad hoses and intercooler ones too as the engine and box were out and the rad. Whilst at it, i had the transfer box seals and O rings renewed plus...

    Play in gear lever

When you fit the new slickshift you will be able to lose all the slack by tightening down the bolts that the large turret spring sit on. If you screw in the two bolts it allows the spring to take up more play on the ball on the gearstick. You will also be able to renew the base nylon cup which...

Best thing you bought for your Defender

My best two are first the Slickshift kit which halves the stick movement between gears and second, new crystal headlights as the old ones seemed to be candlepower. I have also added two 2 way water jets more by using existing electric water pumps and putting two 2 outlet jets in the bonnet to...

    Defender 90 headlining refurb

I lined the rear of my Def90 TD5 with Dodomat and then put the 4 way stretch grey matting over the top using spray on glue that came from the same company on Ebay. It is now a lot quieter and warmer. The Dodomat comes in sheets and are self adhesive and can be cut with scissors. The grey matting...

Lots of slack and oil from transfer box.

There are also 'O' rings on one shaft in the transfer box that leak oil when they have gone south. I have just had my trannie box rebuilt with new seals and O rings and when they did it they also tightened up the O ring loaded shaft as well to the correct torque as it had some play on it. I have...

    Def 90 fuses for indicators

You need to unscrew the two black knobs on the fuse box cover. Its is located in front of the gearstick below the dash. Then when you can see the fuses you will see that the entire fuseholder structure is held in with a couple of screws into the bulkhead under the dash. Take out the screws and...
