    Pump timing on a 109

What? Did someone speak? Away back to your nanny and get a nappy change and a bottle.

Go ahead to try a PM. It's been blocked for everyone else in case JM sends me another inane PM that I am tempted to post and get banned again.

    Pump timing on a 109

The 2.5NA is a good engine. I have a nice one sitting on my garage floor if anyone wants to take it away. No starter motor, but otherwise a complete runner in good condition. The 2.5NA engine often responds really well to fine tuning of the injection timing. There's a thread about this...

    Pump timing on a 109

Whats cavitation? Only asking as my 2.5na is not running as well as it used too and I am looking for ideas. In some circumstances high frequency vibrations can set up in steel injector pipes and vibrate the fuel inside so much that it creates bubbles in the fuel, which spoils the injection...

    Pump timing on a 109

Stick with the diesel! It is an attitude of mind. The petrol ones give an impression of better progress, but in fact they are only a little easier to drive than the diesel. Once you get used to the idea of the diesel and how to keep it going along with the traffic, you will get there...

    Turbo seals? maybe?......

But one cold morning, why not give it a full time GLOW, and see if that reduces the smoke?

    Pump timing on a 109

Unless an expert JM says otherwise, try this. Wipe the pump body clean, and look for an Arrow engraved on it. --------------> Using a mirror and a torch helps. The arrow points in the direction that the INSIDES of the pump rotate. So . . . Turning the pump body in the direction the...

    Pump timing on a 109

The problems with that are these: 1. the maker's mark is a "one size fits all" mark to get every new engine running in the factory. No attempt is made to deal with each engine as an individual unless it runs so badly they don't dare send it out. That was very rare. 2. over the years, a...

Oh well, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

    Turbo seals? maybe?......

I would be interested to know how long your glow plugs have been in there, and what would happen if you were to fit a set of top quality new ones. Smoke on cold start is usually due to poor ignition and combustion, because the heat of compression is being reduced in the cold engine.

See if you can get a nice pic showing the injection pump clamp area and the marks there. Are you able to judge how far and in what direction you turned it so far?

TD5 EGR Blanking Plate Fitting - My Tips

That would do the job as a last resort, but it would be better blocked at the manifold. The first thing to do right now is find the two vacuum pipes at the valve end of the EGR. There is one fitted to each of the two capsules. Take them off. Just take them right off the capsules. Fine a...

TD5 EGR Blanking Plate Fitting - My Tips

If there is access, use a sharp fine tooth hacksaw blade to saw a slot across it, then an impact driver should see it out. The fact the hex head has rounded suggests the bolt metal has softened over time due to the heat / cool of driving and parking up. It is always a good idea with these...

That is simply not correct. However, there is no point in arguing with such an expert.

    Pump timing on a 109

Hi Perdix, Now you need to "fine tune" the timing by advancing the injection a tiny bit at a time till it runs as it should. My first guess would be to turn it a little more in the same direction as last time. Remember, a small adjustement can make a big difference. especially as the timing...

    Long time to start

Just so. But most times I guess people have to use what they have. LUSOL used to be pretty good but I think that company ceased trading a while back PLUSGAS? What do people use these days? I find my oxy-acetylene torch and a 2 pound hammer loosens most things.

    Long time to start

That's a bit strong, but as RELEASE agents go, I agree there are things that work better, but chances are they won't be as good as WD40 at doing other things. Try GT85 from Machine Mart, for a change. It is excellent for an all-round maintenance fluid. Most of these fluids are kerosene...

Really? WD40 themselves might not agree with that statement. WD-40 Lubricates, Cleans, Protects, Penetrates & Displaces Moisture Did you know... WD-40® can clean your bike & tools, remove grease, and lubricate locks, hinges, & all moving parts WD-40 removes paint, gum, rubber cement...

    Long time to start

Measuring voltage at the glow plug only tells you if the electricity is reaching the plug connection terminal. It does not tell you if the plug is working. For that you need to measure RESISTANCE (Ohms) from plug tip terminal to the body, or the CURRENT in the cable when the plug is...

    Urgent help

Be sure to carry a bottle of brake fluid from now on. A top up every so often BEFORE it stops working can save lots of grief.
