    Nooooooooo

I think he replaced most of the engine along the way! Let's hope it goes well for the next 250,000 miles.

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Hey look! His hydraulic damper is inverted! I bet no-one else noticed.

    td5 egr bypass

Gosh . . . we didn't know that, and in any event exhaust gases can not RE-BURN. The whole point of EGR is to make the combustion process LESS hot, by polluting good fresh air (about 20% oxygen) with dirty exhaust fumes (about 0% oxygen), and that is what reduces efficiency. There is only...

    Wheel Nuts!

TD5 unit front wheelbearing. Lasted 92K miles, £193 to replace. If it could have been done with two taper roller bearings, like the good old days, twenty quid and a dollop of yellow grease. Now I wait for the other one to go. It's called progress.

I need this idea out of my head

YES . . .Guilty as charged. I bought two to start, and then I thought, "What the Hell, it's only all my money" so I bought 76FL66 as well. I was driving 76FL66 today. Amazing. Goes like stink and makes a gorgeous N-O-I-S -E ! Funny thing though, people stop and look. Visitors are...

    td5 egr bypass

EGR makes combustion LESS good, and less clean, and the inevitable result is more soot, and more CO2. No-one knows what "good" EGR's are supposed to do.

I need this idea out of my head

Ahhh .... I see. I have two TD5 Discos, a lightweight, a 200tdi Disco needing a chassis job, a 101 Ambulance and a 101 truck GS 76FL66 the Tail End Charlie of the 1975 West-East Sahara desert crossing. I would quite like a woman, but they seem to think there's too much competition.

    Wheel Nuts!

All I would add is that that greased wheelnuts also keep water out of the threads, so they tend not to rust up and get stuck.

More than likely, but what buckled his pushrod ?

    Wheel Nuts!

I hear you loud and clear, but as we both know, they DO know best. Of course they do. BUT, they also know that the BEST ways of doing things may require a degree of mechanical aptitude that lots of so-called vehicle technicians do not have, and in the case of wheel-nuts, the worst case...

That is how you end up attached to a WOMAN.

    Nooooooooo

Excellent job, and it sounds just fine. Well done! You may never find out why it buckled that pushrod. It may remain a mystery.

    Wheel Nuts!

It doesn't make a blind bit of difference! TORQUE is of NO RELEVANCE! Torque does NOT hold wheels on. TENSION of the wheel studs holds wheels on. Tension is achieved by tightening the wheelnuts, but the easier the nut can turn on the stud (or bolt) so the more tension will be created for...

But I bought THREE of them, though I sold one the next day (last Friday). Don't want to be greedy . . .

    Wheel Nuts!

Cripes, no wonder your wheels fall off! 95 foot-pounds of torque is just under 130 Newton Metres

    help advice for sickly disco

You can intrude all you like because your intrusions are sensible and helpful! Can you ship a pic of the earth rail you mention? Where exactly is this troublesome connection? My TD5 Disco turned 93K miles today, so I will be happy to check an earth point tomorrow!

    Wheel Nuts!

"Minor Grunt" is the proper technical expression for the correct torque.
  20. C

    Wheel Nuts!

Correct. TORQUE itself is always irrelevant except as a means to induce TENSION on a bolt or stud. TENSION holds wheels on, not torque. Applying lube to threads enables the device to achive the right tension for a lot less torque, or a lot more tension for the right torque. For example...
