    help advice for sickly disco

If you insist. This would be better. You'll have to do better than that to "wind me in ". Maybe an attack on my grammar and spelling ? I am not trying to wind you in, or indeed up. YOU started the nastiness here, not me. I have been the epitome of politeness thoughout. Perhaps you are...

    help advice for sickly disco

Dear Me James, You and that other fellow do seem to have great big chips on your shoulders. As regards that injector loom you thought so insignificant, I never once said anything like that injector loom was 'so insignificant'. Your imagination is running away with you again. You need a...

Not at all. James and I get along just fine. It was a comment intended to remind TD5 owners and others that, useful as they may be, diagnostic tools are far from capable of detecting many of the most basic and commonest faults that beset our TD5s. Your choice of language reveals your nature well.

I need this idea out of my head

Hmmm...... never tried a woman with mint sauce. It might sting a bit with all that vinegar though. Where do the roast potatoes go?

I will be helpful . . . here is a pic of the driver's side of the cabin. I think this should put him off the idea. Look at the throttle pedal for a start. It appears that someone stood on it.

I should have said "ONLY forty sheep", so a woman would be welcome . . . Sheep have trouble with the ironing . . . and they are hopeless cooks.

Engine Rattle On Cold Start Up

Very possibly it's a noisy hydraulic cam follower aka tappet. Get a probe stethoscope and listen at the engine lid. If the engine runs quietly after a little while it will be fine. For Heaven's sake don't dive into the guts of the engine till you are pretty sure you KNOW what's up!

    TD5 inlet manifold

Take off the EGR - you are going to bin it anyway. I like the idea of taking out the rear core plug. Would taking both of those out not give good access to scrub it clean? The branches to the cylinders should be easy to do.

Changed the fuel filter... I had no idea it got so very HOT.. In normal running, the fuel filter of all TD5s will get far too hot to hold on to. The fuel gets VERY hot in the TD5 Injectors, so hot that it would not be safe to let it go back to the tank. So the fuel spilled from the...

What I can't forgive myself for .... it's so awful I can hardly bring myself to tell you .... I sold one .... I had three, and in a moment of madness I sold one.

    td5 egr bypass

No Problem. You are quite right, the sump gas IS sent back into the engine, which has been a standard practice for 40 years or more. It doesn't do any good, and it does very little harm. Fine. Let's not worry about that. EGR is something quite different. Rip it out, the whole damned...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Gosh ... that much. I will stop worrying about breaking them. One of the best things about them is they have a bit of stretch in them. I have some that are two spliced end-to-end to make double length. Good for recovery but too long to be legal for towing on the road, and sure as fate some...

Tall skinny ones are good for looking at, but shorter fatter ones are better for recreational purposes. So they say.

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

As far as I know, none of these have ever snapped when used as tow ropes. I wonder what the breaking strain is? Whatever, it will be plenty enough to take the front end off most cars! I hope you all have fun with them. There are more if Jack runs out, and Battenberg is threatening to...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

There has to be a moral to this event, but I am damned if I can think what it might be! Looks like a lot of fun, and he's still smiling! Did any of you guys get one of my ropes from Jack? Eye-splices?

    td5 egr bypass

You want the soot reading to go down. No EGR will help that to happen. The little pipe you mention is the crank-case breather pipe, that in olden days allowed gases that passed the pistons to leave the engine completely, thus sending the water vapour, acids and so on outside as soon as...
