    Door seals

Hey all, My door frames had no seals on them when I bought the landy but I think from the parts diagram that there should be three seals attached to the top frame? Can someone post any photos of these seals and advise on how they are fixed on please? Cheers, Al.

Extending life of window sliding channels

Thanks Gents, I didn't know about the all plastic ones until I had the original type bought so I'll fit them and keep oiling them with light oil from time to time. I did a trial fitting today. The replacement alloy spacer seems to sit very low in the base of the frame. It's flush on the other...

Extending life of window sliding channels

Thanks all, I think I will use no glue or sealant, just plenty of Bilt Hamber clear wax and screws to fix. Plus a few extra drain holes and hopefully a seal. I'm thinking maybe the vertical seal that attaches to the front of the sliding pane could be modified to work. One doortop is brand new...

Extending life of window sliding channels

Hey all, So I now have all the bits to rebuild both door tops with new window channels, spacers etc. I've bought the original style metal ones but now read that these are not expected to last that long and that there are plastic and aluminium ones available. Hey ho, I'll use what I have but I...

    Mobile welder

My recommendation is to enrol in a welding or bodywork repair evening class in your local FE/Technical College and learn for yourself. You'll save a fortune and have the satisfaction of having done the work yourself. And you get to buy a welder!! Good luck! Al.

Finish on aluminium strips around lower bodywork. Anodised?

Agreed that original with some patina is always better. I'll just clean 'em up. Wire wool may do the job. Al.

Finish on aluminium strips around lower bodywork. Anodised?

Ooohhhh.... So really they should clean up OK, maybe with a bit of mechanical polishing? Al.

Finish on aluminium strips around lower bodywork. Anodised?

Just so I can plan my process, what did the alloy strips finishing the top edge of the lower half of the Series III have when they left the factory. I'm thinking of getting mine anodised for longevity. I suspect most people just paint them with aluminium or silver paint but I tend towards...

What colour is my Landy? Marine Blue?

Thanks. Paint matching is a nightmare! That ebay paint is totally wrong, although in the guy's defence he does warn it's not for matching previous paint. I'll be painting my whole exterior so I will buy all mine from the same place, probably my local motor factor who have been fine for other...

What colour is my Landy? Marine Blue?

In the process of rebuilding door tops and I need to paint my replacement frame on the drivers side. I will most likely move to a full canvas hood so am thinking that I'll have the door tops the same colour as the rest of the exterior. Am I right in thinking that mine is Marine Blue? It looks...

    Rebuilding door top

Thanks Gents, I opened my pack of new felt channels this morning and there were 10 countersunk screws in there - hopefully stainless. So I guess that's four on the longest channel and three on the other two. Rebuild halted because my metal filler/spacer pieces are in poor shape so I'll need...

    Parts lists with part names

Me again. The Parts diagrams I have have part numbers only. Has anyone come across diagrams or listings that describe the part as well? Cheers, Al.

    Rebuilding door top

Hey all, I am putting a new door top on my driver side and it has come without any holes for fixing the seals in. The old door top and seals were so rusted that it is difficult to see where the screws went through the seals and into the frame. I have some good parts diagrams that I think I...

Classic Buyers guide for '73 Suffix B

Hey all, As the owner of a '75 Landy, I'm usually found lurking over on the Series zone but I'm going to look at a Suffix B Range Rover tomorrow. Anything in particular I should be paying attention to? I've been owning and working on all sorts of classics for 30 yrs so know the generalities...

    Paint codes

Thanks all! I'll be painting the whole external body and engine bay so match is not so important. If I am looking for a perfect match, the place I use for paint has a clever machine that reads the colour when held up against a panel. It then tells the guys the closest colour in their database...

    Paint codes

Hey all, So I've finished welding my footwells and have turned my attention to cosmetics. My engine bay is tatty and the whole body needs a repaint. The body is currently Marine Blue I think, with cream roof and door tops. Are there particular paint codes for these colours? I spent most of...

    Best source of footwell panels

MOT's in England do seem to be pretty variable (I lived in Greater Manchester for 15 years). I bought this Landie with an MOT and the holes in both footwells were clearly visible. In N.Ireland MOTs are done by government run centres and there is a lot less room for manoeuvre. I took mine...

    Best source of footwell panels

John S - you mentioned Mud Shields. The repair above was needed because the rust had developed between the footwell panel and another removable panel that is there to close the space above that area. Is that the mud shield you refer to? It comes up and forward from its fixing point (4 bolts)...

    Best source of footwell panels

Many thanks to you all! I took a half-day today and removed to FR wing to get a good look. On inspection I took the view that the rot wasn't actually bad enough to warrant full replacement of footwells. So, I set to cutting out the upper rust and fabricating a section to be butt welded in...
