    Oil pressure range

When removing the rocker cover I do see oil flowing, but it is not spraying. I guess that means that at least the engine is lubricated somewhat... The transmitter/sender is mounted on the adaptor that holds the oil filter. It has worked before, so it probably is matched. But it may well be...

    Oil pressure range

Thanks - I also assumed that the smoke was not an issue, but I am glad to get a confirmation. To me the sound seems to be fine as well. I will have to find the oil gauge ;) Yes, I could drive it, but I am a bit worried to let it run at such high pressure. While my guess (that I am waiting to...

    Oil pressure range

So it turns out there actually was not enough oil in the engine. I filled it to about mid-range between L and F, and (as expected) the oil pressure shot off scale within a short time after starting the engine. I am attaching a video, maybe someone can tell something from the sound/smoke? Note...

    Will do - thanks!

    Oil pressure range

Assuming the reading is right (which I assume, since the sensor and gauge were working fine before), can I damage anything by letting the engine run for a while so it warms up completely?

    Oil pressure range

Thanks for your help Steve - this thing is seriously confusing me... So after the last messages I got paranoid and was wondering if maybe the steel ball had fallen out before I reinstalled the pump (sort of like when you leave the house and think you left the stove on), but I could not find...

    Oil pressure range

I had removed the oil pressure relieve valve as I had to remove the oil pump - maybe I just need to make sure that is right. Naive question: Do you tighten the relieve valve completely (and the spring takes care of the pressure setting) or to a setting where the pressure is in the correct range?

    Oil pressure range

Thanks. I did notice a drop in oil pressure when I removed some of the oil, and I had noticed before that the oil pressure dropped when there was not enough oil - does this mean something is wrong with the pressure sensor?

    Oil pressure range

What is the correct oil pressure reading for a 2.6L? Mine used to sit around 50 when the correct amount of oil was in the engine, now (after replacing bearings on the crank shaft and thus removing/refitting the oil pump, and cleaning everything) it is higher. Admittedly there may be a bit too...

Is there any reason why I should not wait too long before replacing the 7th main bearing? Are six new ones nearly as good as seven, or is this nearly as bad as no new ones? (in other words, will the new ones dominate over the old one or vice-versa?)
  11. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

Yeah, this makes sense. I guess I just would not have expected it to be this strong.
  12. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

As a follow-up - today I replaced all the big end bearings and six of the main bearings (the seventh is not really accessible without taking the engine out). I will take it for a drive tomorrow to see if I notice any difference... ;) But what surprised me was that of the main bearings all lower...
  13. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

OK, I will get standard sizes for both. Another rookie question - the nuts on the bearing shells should also be replaced, I assume. Are they ERC1027?
  14. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

I don't know, but my feeling is that these guys deserve to be sent to retirement ;) The stamps say G AX 530361 for the main and G BX 272075 for the con rod is there a site to look up these codes?
  15. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

Will do - thanks for your help!
  16. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

My assumption was that if I take them out I can tell (from a stamp) what size I need, is that also what you are saying? Is Craddock a good place to order from?
  17. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

    Thanks!
  18. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

Yes, that was my plan. That part seems rather easy, and if I remove them I can check if I need oversized bearings in case I order new ones. My guess is that they are still the original ones (car has 36k on the odometer).
  19. kyamon

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

Are RTC2993 (with appropriate oversize) the correct con rod bearings for this engine (for some reason that page is missing from my parts catalogue)? I have RTC1720 for the main bearings

    Endfloat on Crankshaft

Oil pressure looks good. I had a period with excessive oil consumption but that seems resolved now (nevertheless, replacing the valve guides is high-ish on the list). The bottom of the oil sump was covered in goo, but I guess that is to be expected after (presumably) 45 years. I did not see...
