    Rear window packed in..

just a version that also entailed holding the engine revs at 1500 for 10 seconds - mine didn't want to play otherwise

    Rear window packed in..

I just went with the easy option... replaced the entire door. From experience, trying to mess about with old rusty window regulators is a risky experience, which often ends up in tears. Once recalibrated (the longer version), it worked fine :)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

currently bidding on an old aircraft clock :D No lighting, and runs off 24v, so needs a bit of modding first

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

That thing is beautiful..... Love steampunk, and Dieselpunk too! Styled my (still unfinished) jet engine on the styles :) Still needs oil feed/drain pipes, and a better oil pump (may just use a 12v fuel pump, instead of a drill-powered power steering pump)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

that looks quite tidy! So it has no place in this Hippo

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

eventually got the rear window recalibrated - now the wipe/wash, window, and demister all work again :D On saturday, I'll be (trying, lol) to swap out the gear selector for one in better condition, checking the ABS sensors, and inspecting the interior light - as it only comes on with the door...

    Repairing a broken Gearbox

Extra bearing, plus slightly thicker shaft ;) Most awkward part of the PG1, is getting a socket big enough to get the end cover thing off - it's a pretty big allen key type fitment... the only thing I've got that's big enough is a sump key

may not be popular... lowering a FL1

I need more rear seat space than my R45 has, and it was a toss-up between a freelander or a R75... the hippo won on how it'll look with a few "choice" mods And GrumpyGel - good point on the freewheeling VCU, not something that's instantly obvious, but makes perfect sense once it's been...

    Repairing a broken Gearbox

should be able to rob the main gear clusters out of any Diesel L series PG1 gearbox (Rover 200/25/MGZR or 400/45/MGZS) it's just the mainshaft and crown wheel that are unique to the Hippo

    FL 1s...common as muck ?

L series oil filter is a common stocked item - you just need to get a Hippo with a decent engine ;)

    Help (Again) Clutch bite point

another method - select 3rd before selecting reverse. Aligns the gears a bit better :)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Legend! Also, a bit of hunting reveals that the rear wiper, washer, nor demister work, id the ccu is whinging about calibration... which is made a bit fiddly by the fact it won't even raise off the switch to allow me to calibrate! Didn't know the key in the boot handle could raise it too...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Picked up a replacement rear door tonight - as from previous experience, it's easier to simply swap a whole door, than it is to faff with getting window regulators to work happily, AND to get the glass gripped properly. Plate needs to be properly fitted tomorrow, and the wiring needs to...

    Rear window packed in..

what's this repair kit specifically do? My window just wants to be DOWN...

    Help (Again) Clutch bite point

you should be able to jiggle the clutch arm by hand a little bit - if it feels totally solid, then it's most likely seized (almost) solid WD40 dries out - once you've got it going, use something like 3in1 oil to try to keep it lubed up
  16. DastardlyDan

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

speedo fixed - didn't know there were THREE ABS fuses  Still no ABS light coming on however... so dash still needs to come out
  17. DastardlyDan

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

the condition of the bodywork was never a consideration for me tbh - more the sheer cheek someone's had by smacking it, then scarpering! At least now I've got an excuse for a set of bullbars eh? And dammit... maybe I'll be lucky, and it's either tape over the LEDs, or maybe even cut...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

well, this is my first, and only.. so assuming that was aimed at deangermouse  Just did a little check, with regards the speedo. No 3 amigos, as the PO must have taken the ruddy bulbs out, as they don't come on with the ignition, and all the fuses are still in place... yaaaaaay

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

new fault.. between picking it up, and going out to it in the work carpark today (drove approx 80 miles, and less than 24 hours) someone's rammed the damned thing :( The radiator hasn't seemed too happy being driven that far either, lol
  20. DastardlyDan

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

well I didn't want my tools to get wet on the drive home  Spent all day fixing a stupid VAG car of a friends - the amount of odd sized fittings used is just... frustrating
