    Grinding noise while accelerating

Thoughts of a novice; If its the turbo or engine related I'd expect it to occur whilst stationary. If its prop related it should only do it "under load" etc but not whilst clutch in/coasting. If it occurs coasting then its more wheels, hubs, etc. Dave

Discovery TD5 wont crank all the time

That nut is named "the nut from hell" for good reason. Can come off easy or may take two hours. The rest of the job pales into easiness once that nuts off. Do it first, cos if you can't get it off, nothing else matters. Re the "click", when mine went it always still clicked on the turn of the...

    MOT advisory

I've had advisories before (sometimes 6+) that I've ignored then they have never been mentioned again!! I'm not suggesting do nothing, just saying. (I'd probably have to wait for it to break before justifying spending actual money on it). Still saving up for two rear hubs! Dave

    brake wobble or shudder

Bought an axle set of discs and pads from paddocks for £70. No bedding in or ineffective time, just worked properly from the installation. Not worth buggering about with anything less or cheaper IMHO. Dave

Your'e never alone with water and 3 Amigos

I've got intermittent faults on both rear sensors (been read and reset twice by the main dealer and another garage) I'm building up (accumulating the tools and parts) to changing both rear hubs, which most advice indicates should clear it. If that WAS the problem, will the lights go out on...

    td5 knocking and shakeing

If it only shakes/vibrates "under load" then look at prop shaft. If you dip the clutch and coast and it still vibrates its something else (wheels/steering) Easy place to start Dave

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

Had the codes read by main dealer for the MOT, "intermittent fault on both rear abs sensors". Reset them, then reoccurred 2 weeks later. Read/reset again from local LR bloke (much cheaper) and that read the same (but only one side. Given time it'd prob read both again!) Only lasted a few hours...

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

I must admit, I got the lights reset just to get through my MOT. BUT I intend sorting, just needed more time! Car tested thoroughly and TC and ABS work fine. Just started "accumulating" the parts/tools needed to change both rear hubs! Just won a whacking great torque wrench off fleabay to get...

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

You could try getting the lights reset just before the mot. I did that a month ago. They came back on after 2 weeks. Think I have to replace both rear hubs now! (Faults are int' both rear sensors) Dave

    jack no good

Used mine a few times with no issues. Seems strange. Either wrong jack or user error?! Dave Ps bought myself a 3tonne high lift trolley jack for Xmas (for DIY stuff), can now lift the car in about 4 seconds!!

    Is there a practical alternative?

To tow a trailer with two horses you need a select group of vehicles. LR do most of them! Any Disco, Range Rover or Defender all pull the same. There's no ordinary pickup that'll do the same and you're looking at the TOP model of each manufacturer to get the match. IMO the best alternative is...

    Driving Discovery 2003 in snow

When I get a chance I throw my D2 around a bit in the snow to test TC, ABS etc. You have to get the feel/experience of sliding out of control to know how to react when it happens for real. Not really sure about all the comments re stopping. Not really thought of that as a major issue. I'd say...

Electric Front Window - Clunk Clunk Stuck!

Personally I wouldn't spend more than the £25. I'd be suspicious if you find one a lot cheaper tbh. But the £85 ones on your link are a joke unless they come with a new motor! Dave

Electric Front Window - Clunk Clunk Stuck!

Probably the "regulator" broke. They're about £25 ish and you move the motor across to the new one if its still good. Did my passenger door one last year, took an hour. The welds often break on the actual moving arms pivot point Just follow your nose to get the panels off. (Undo all screws...

    went thro water 3 amigos

My little 1300cc vauxhall van could (and has) cope better than that! Wading depth on a D2 is around half a meter so you must have had something loose/faulty before you hit the water. Dave

    Nanocom needed nr Southampton

Hi all, Got the three Amigos and need a code reader (and operator!) to check the fault codes. Mot is next week, which it will fail with these lights on. May just need a reset (he hopes) or at least should point to where problem is. Main dealer wants £70+ just to read codes, so would like to do...
