    Freelander 1 TD4 2005 thermostat fastener torque

It's been a while (for all sorts of reasons nobody will care about) but day before yesterday, I set about this awful installation design conundrum. I got the thermostat and it's housing out with the use of thin wall Torx E8, stubby 1/4" drive and the use of a strong magnetic pick-up tool. I...

Freelander 1 ICE, door and mirror, Harman Kardon

Thanks for the picture, that confirms my suspicions. I just hope that I don't come across other bodges when I get to detail review and overhaul of the engine. Yikes, I just thought, or they started f*cking around with a pair of pliers, ECU tuning or worse...

Freelander 1 ICE, door and mirror, Harman Kardon

That makes perfect sense! I have yet to investigate the interior of the mirror, but they are not folding. I think I have bought a vehicle with some, ahem, modifications done by an idiot who bought a well looked after car 2 years or so ago, but who could not afford and/or did not have the...

Freelander 1 ICE, door and mirror, Harman Kardon

In https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/hk-door-speaker.348083/ : - @Nodge68, I hope you'll take this question for me please. Last night I continued searching the forum extensively and you answered me elsewhere regarding TD4 HSE 2004 facelift door regulators etc. I suddenly got concerned...

    Freelander 1 Getting less common

I suspect there is quite a business opportunity there with Jap' imports. People who bought them in the noughties and have more disposable income... ;)

    Freelander 1 Getting less common

Prices for used vehicles in France is high. I just bought a 2005 TD4 HSE manual transmission FL 1 for just over 4,000€ (£3350 at today's exchange rate). I have all service records and receipts until 2 years ago including the original sales receipt. But I think the price of them is going to...

    Freelander 1 TD4 - recognise this connector?

This is for LTB00052/2007 (23 April 2007) @Nodge68, right? Are there other TSB's that I should know about? I just did a check and got the result per the attached screen grab; no outstanding TSB's. Only 1 ever, or my VIN/vehicle has been fully updated? What's your take please?

    Freelander 1 TD4 - recognise this connector?

Yes @Nodge68 exactly like that! Just not routed nicely as yours, I'll tidy it up tomorrow. Thank you!

    Freelander 1 TD4 - recognise this connector?

Thanks @Arctic2 - I appreciate it. It makes sense too, because this car was (until 2 years ago) dealer maintained irrespective of cost.

    Freelander 1 TD4 - recognise this connector?

Hello Slowly working my way through my 2005 manual transmission TD4 and I spotted this connector above the EGR feed tube, Anyone recognise this and whether it is supposed to be connected to something. Or is a blanking cap missing? It looks like its been hanging in the oily mists of time for a...

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

I am so pleased that you got to the root cause of the problem. This is very interesting and certainly parked into my subconscious for future reference. A final question please @andyfreelandy? You are using pscan? Pleased with it? Have you comparison with other tools please?

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

So is https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/2005-td4-giving-p1e30-error-code.344738/#post-4537329 going to match your P1e30? Dodgy connection/wiring/boost control solenoid valve opening up the EGR when you don't want it? This will be interesting.... Good luck tomorrow!

Freelander 1 TD4 facelift - glass lift mechanism

I got 85ohms at the switch connector, so at 12V that's 140mA which doesn't seem too bad @Dippypud. Do you have a feel for what it ought to be in ideal circumstances? I did check the battery, it seemed to be on the low side and it is cold today. So I put it on charge. I have refitted the new...

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

and so the ECM/ECU would give a code, not necessarily a fault but a diagnostic output. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Freelander 1 TD4 facelift - glass lift mechanism

So it's a nice day outside and unbelievably I got a next day delivery of a complete regulator. I've lubed the rails, dropped the glass into the glass clamps and then went to actuate. Up? Slow and laboured. Down, weight of glass aids what is a nice smooth operation. I'll lube the rails again...

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

Unless the ECU has the capacity to derate the fuel pump, then the pump has no fault and the ECU is limping the engine. That is a guess on my part though. I am not yet sufficiently experienced with FL1 ECU interactions.

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

@andyfreelandy - the variable vanes are on the inlet side of the turbo. BUT the vanes are also in the exhaust route when the EGR is open. And therein lies the problem perhaps. The EGR opens when the exhaust gas pressure is exceeding inlet manifold pressure at partial load operation (that is...

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

I am not surprised to see any of that. My background is in aerospace design and latterly I was VP in a US filtration company for mostly aero but other industries too. This explains my preference for OEM products. Although one can lay criticism at LR for the supplied design standards, pattern...

Freelander 1 P1470 Boost Problem a new twist

Ouch. Then that leaves the ECU, the pump or the internals of the turbo doesn't it? I bet your turbo is clean as a whistle if what I am deducting about you from your postings is true. My TD4 manual has, in it's life since new, now at 165,000miles (oh the joy of receipts) is three fuel pumps...
