    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

exactly , hence the excessive tightness on full lock when the VC is passed it best.

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

don't know why they thought it would be better to give it a front bias. The thing is the difference in ratio is/was only 0.8% so the slightest scrubbing of the front wheels particularly in a turn is enough to allow prop speeds to alter and progressively bring in the rear as a driven axle.

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

just noticed this........ there's no difference in rotational speed on road, the back wheels will be turning at the same speed as the front. The point is this situation the back wheels aren't being driven by the rear diff they are driving the diff. No matter what resistance there is in the VC it...

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

agreed. everyone seems to know and accept that an FL1s rear drive/wheels are slightly undergeared compared to the fronts so I can't see why they don't realise that that means no 'driving' force is being applied under normal conditions.

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

No it's slipping the other (wrong) direction, sapping power not providing actual drive. Come back Austen, help me out here!

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

No hippo there isn't "drive", nothing from the engine is driving the rear diff. The bit you and others are missing is that because of the reduction at the IRD the front half of the prop is turning slower than the rear half. The rear wheels are in effect coasting and turning the rear diff and...

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

True, the fluid resists shear whatever its temperature and therefore is always capable of transmitting some drive even when cold. As I understand it the friction generated by the molecules within the fluid increase temperature and resist shear at an increasing rate until it no longer slips...

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

Yes i agree, but it doesn't do so (unless it's fooked) during normal on road driving, I was talking about normal driving with no wheel slip in response to those who think there is some magical division/split in drive torque under these conditions

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

under normal straight line driving with no front wheel slip the rear half of the prop turns faster than the front half. there's no argument about this, it's defined by the difference in front and rear ratio. so the VC slips in two directions, the front only "drives" the rear half when there is...

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

yep that figures out of thin air........the is NO drive to the rear when driving in a straight line with no front wheel slip.

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

It depends on your model, i'm not sure exactly which models come with steel wheels, people like to upgrade to alloys but the early alloy wheels don't fit Td4s.

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

Has it had new pads before during your ownership? Are you sure it hasn't previously had different wheels?

    3 Amigo's -- SORTED

check part number of the one you've fitted first....in case we're barking up the wrong tree.. original LR part number is RFC 000010 for 2002 onward vehicles (with magnets in bearing) ealier ones up to 2002 were ANR 5861. it would be so much easier if the early bearings were discontinued!

    3 Amigo's -- SORTED

The later ones don't have reluctor rings but have magnets inside the bearing seal to activate the sensors. You have most likely fitted the earlier bearing intended for a shaft that has a reluctor ring fitted.
