    Help

Probably best to use some degreaser and wash the entire underside down first then observe before you go chasing leaks. My bet is that the leak is coming from higher up.

    No horn, hazzards or AC

Just closing this one out. Sorted. Issue appeared to be associated with one of the glow plugs. Three plugs confirmed as having good resistance whereas one was measuring as open circuited. Bought new glow plug loom and a new 100A fusible link. The original loom had melted pretty badly in...

    Your thoughts on Halfshaft/Drive members

Oh I see.. one-piece assembly for 90s whereas separate pieces for 110/130. That makes my decision easier. What about quality of halfshafts? Stick to one particular brand or are they generally all the same? i.e. Britpart, Bearmach. In my opinion Land Rover branded is not an option.. too pricey.

    Your thoughts on Halfshaft/Drive members

Makes sense. To be fair though, it would take only a couple mins to unbolt drive member bolts, remove half shalf assembly and check bearings. Not a deal breaker for me.

    Your thoughts on Halfshaft/Drive members

Greetings, What are your thoughts on the supposed 'upgraded' rear halfshafts which are combined with the drive members as one unit? See attached image. I believe LR did these as standard on some newer models. Is this a worthy investment or am I better off with the separate halfshafts and drive...

    No horn, hazzards or AC

Greetings, 300tdi defender 110, ROW spec. Whilst trying to start up for the first time after replacing the head gasket I saw smoke creeping up from under the bonnet when I held the key at the heater position. Upon inspection the glowplug wire chain was partially melted mainly at glow plugs #...

    Defender cutting out

Check ignition switch to rule it out. Switch tends to get worn and loose at rear of the barrel. Had an issue where mine would suddenly cut out randomly or when I hit a bump or pothole whilst driving. Took me about two weeks to catch on to what the cause was. A new switch solved this.

    300tdi- Blow-By or Faulty Vacuum/Brake servo?

It is never good news is it? Thanks, that makes sense. Milege is indeed low and it makes many short trips so that diagnosis fits.

    300tdi- Blow-By or Faulty Vacuum/Brake servo?

Could you see honing marks, helical scores, on the walls of the cylinders? As mentioned above cylinders are smooth and clean. Are you using oil? Not anymore than the usual leaks. What colour is the smoke in daylight? Light grey/blueish. When did you last change your air filter? Air filter...

    300tdi- Blow-By or Faulty Vacuum/Brake servo?

Greetings, Can someone explain to me the link that exists between the vacuum pump/brake servo and crankcase pressure? In other words, is it possible to have symptoms of "blow-by" due to a faulty vacuum system? Why I am thinking it is the vacuum system: 1. I took head off to replace head...

    Valve Stem caps

    Ok. Thanks. Cheers

    Valve Stem caps

Greetings, Are the 300tdi valve stem caps supposed to be easily removed and installed or are they supposed to have a tight fit? I find with the rocker shaft out, mine can easily slip off and on. Is this normal?

    Cylinder head checks

Greetings, In an effort to identify the cause of my persistent smoking at idle I finally decided to remove the head and check condition of gasket and valves. 1.Head was checked with a straight edge and passed with flying colours. 2. Head gasket has no visible signs of damage but since milege is...

    Returning to std springs

I can tell you from experience that standard springs ride "better" in that they are more forgiving on bad/bumpy roads. However the springs found in lift kits with typically higher spring rates actually in my experience do allow the defender to handle significantly better on the road. (Less body...

    LT230 PTO cover preload

As an update.. Removing the input housing cover plate I inserted two of the screws into the housing and tightened them down. It took a bit of effort to turn the input shaft by hand. Once I backed those two screws off a bit the input gear once again became easy to turn. So it appears that the...

    LT230 PTO cover preload

With the PTO cover on (silicone seal, not gasket) my intermediate gears are very hard to turn freely by hand with the sump cover off. With the PTO cover off they can be spun relatively easily using the input shaft. Should the preload on PTO cover be significant enough to affect the intermediate...

Tighten LT230 Intermediate Gear Nut in situ?

Thanks. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow.

Tighten LT230 Intermediate Gear Nut in situ?

Greetings, Defender 110. Can the above be done? I don't fancy removing entire box. I plan to remove input gear and check intermediate gears for endfloat. Thanks in advance.
