    Dating my Series 2A

Beauty tottot Thanks for that. When I get the steel headlight bowl out from the front wing l I will check to ensure it will fit the grill light recess. It should do. If it does, I will also get replacement bowls for the grill lights also. In regards to the dip switch, if I understood you...

    Dating my Series 2A

Hello chaps Unfortunately due to illness this week I couldn't do too much on the old girl. I did remove one headlight though but couldn't get the steel bowl out as the bolts holding it in are rusted solid. Unfortunately it looks like I will have to get behind the fender with a dremel tool and...

    Dating my Series 2A

I will try and commence some work on it tomorrow. I had a look at the bolts securing the alloy bull bar to the steel bumper. Access to the nuts at the rear securing the alloy bar to the bumper is restricted as there are steel flanges which are welded to the back of the bumper, leaving very...

    Dating my Series 2A

Hello Tottot Sorry for the late reply - I have been busy with work and illness, still not quite right. I agree the steering wheel is awful. It looks like someone has just added more and more plastibond to the spokes to try and cover up fractures. They certainly thought rough enough is good...

    Dating my Series 2A

Excellent. Thank you for that. I did think it was around a 63 -64 model. When I have some more time in a couple of days I will try and send some more close up photos of some of the interior fittings. The old girl has seen quite a bit of abuse and finding some parts to rebuild the cab could pose...

    Dating my Series 2A

Thank you Tony for that. I appreciate the information. I am working pretty intently at the moment and will have a look in a couple of days when I finish my work task. I should also be able to upload some more photos of my bitzer. Guido

    Dating my Series 2A

Blast I knew I should have attached them! These are the only three I have loaded onto my computer, I have a swag of them on another drive at work. Will probably be another day or so before I can load them up The steering wheel has seen better days and I need to sort out another horn push...

    Dating my Series 2A

Good afternoon from OZ I am seeking a bit of advice as to how I would go about getting an approximate built date for my LR 109 Series 2A. Long story short, the LR arrived in Australia originally as a single cab utility and at some stage was converted to a delivery van, extra headlights added...

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Thank you, that is where I was thinking of placing the relay for my glow plugs.

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Thanks for that Shedload. Good to know. I have a 70amp relay and 50amp rated cable. Point of interest, you say a relay click to listen to. Where did you mount the relay, within the cab or on the engine bay side of the bulkhead?

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Disregard the last sentence of my post, after "between the battery and the relay". It has been a long day.

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Thank you so much for your advice chaps. I did a quick run into the big smoke and stopped in at a couple of auto electrical businesses. Both had a look at the replacement ignition switch I had and also your diagram, Mystery. I ended up collecting a Bosch heavy duty relay and some 6mm2 cable to...

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Anyway mate Thank you for your advice. I think I will consult with any auto electrician next time I am in the big smoke and purchase a couple of metres of decent sized cable as well as the appropriate sized relay. I am off to bed now, it is 10.40pm here in Western Australia and I have work in...

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

That should read we are connecting current to the ignition switch post side of the resistor, so it flows through the resistor and then to the glow plugs, just as it would if it were operated by the ignition switch.

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Thanks Pal What we have been doing is running 12 volts from the ignition post side of the resistor, so current flows through the resistor, then through to the glow plugs as it would have done if it was flowing direct from the ignition switch itself through the resistor. My replacement switch...

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Hello Lynall Thank you for your reply. The glow plugs are the pigtail type glow plugs wired in series, with the lead from the last glow plug going to earth on the chassis. There is a resistor on the bulkhead. What confuses me even more is the glass type fuses in the fuse holder on the...

Glow Plug question for early model Series 2A Diesel

Hello all I am seeking some advice regarding the glow plugs and wiring on a 2A series 109 Land Rover with a 2.25 diesel engine I am slowly restoring. The vehicle has the original ignition/light switch combination in the centre of the dash, with the keyed engine start ignition switch beneath the...

    Hello from Oz.

Hey Brian It remains to be seen - what rust there really is under all of the "silver paint". I've been having a good look the last day or so and some of the galv pieces have been painted over with zinc and silver paint. They will need sand blasting and then we will see what happens from there...

    Hello from Oz.

Thanks chaps. I strongly suspect that the cab roof and corners were used in the conversion on my vehicle. The conversion was done by a company called Pressed Metal Corporation, based in Sydney, New South Wales (small plate attached to the inside of the bulkhead). That company did many hundreds...
