    Auxiliary Battery

An AGM battery is a good idea. I do carry a battery with me but had heard about making it a bit more permanent and also saw an advert for an auxiliary battery tray for a D2 and got wondering. I already carry a NOCO GB40 which is a great bit of kit in case the battery fails on me.

    Auxiliary Battery

Has anyone fitted/ is it possible to fit an auxiliary battery in the engine bay of a Mk1 pre-facelift (53 reg) Td4? I want a second battery for radio equipment and as a backup jump starter but I would weather keep it out of the boot. Any advice tips links and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

    Sill Finisher

Yes I have broke nearly every one I have tried to take apart. I should look for a source of new ones really. That way I could brake away without fear of not being able to put back together again.

    Sill Finisher

Out of interest. Did you use a specific tool to remove the plastic clip things?

    Sill Finisher

What an amazingly thorough job. I wish I had the skill set to do the same. I have the fl1 pre-facelift (53reg) td4 and I was thinking of removing the sill finishers and leaving off so that buildup did t occur.

    Sill Finisher

I saw on a you tube video someone discussing the possibility of removing the sill finisher as it was a rust trap. Can anyone tell me if the sill finisher serves a purpose more that aesthetics and also has anyone had any experience with removing it and also is it worth doing? Thank you in advance.

    Long Start Td4

No the suspension had not been altered in any way. As far as I know it is original off the assembly line suspension. I spoke to a mate who lives about half hour away from me (we both live in Mid Wales) and he says that he has replaced his drop links a good number of times and reckons it’s the...

    Long Start Td4

I have no idea. This is the first 4x4 I’ve ever owned so I have no way of knowing that this is t relatively normal. Also I researched it and apparently with worsening roads and with owning a 4x4 drop links fail more often. I do live really rurally and the roads by me really are awful and I use...

    Long Start Td4

Well I changed the camshaft sensor and I think it made a bit of a difference but not enough to say that it is sorted. I want to buy a leak off test kit to check the injectors and also change the glow plugs but I’m really nervous about the glow plugs as I have heard that they can be a nightmare...

    Lunrication

I have a Freelander 1 pre-facelift td4 53 plate. I have been looking for any grease nipples to apply fresh grease to but haven’t found any. Are there any on the fl1? If not then what would be a good idea to regularly grease.

    Axle Stands

I would love to do that. I have thought about it. I don’t think I even need a digger.

    Axle Stands

I have bought x4 3tonne axle stands so that I can start working safely on under my car. What I am struggling to find is information, especially a diagram, of where the safest place to put the stands. Would someone be able to visually (sorry to be specific but I work best on visuals rather than...

    Brake Fluid

Can someone tell me how much brake fluid my Freelander needs. The manual says that it’s Dot4 but not how much I need. I’m planning to fit new brakes and do a full bleed. I own a 53 plate FL1 pre-facelift Td4. Thank you all for any help.

    Coolant Header Tank

I am loosing small amounts of coolant, I gather this is relatively normal. I may have lost something like 3-4 litres in 6 months. Where should I be looking for issues as I don’t see anything leaking? The header tank has many small cracks around the cap, is this an issue that means I need to...

Where is the compressor clutch feed? Is it one of the wires in the pictures?

    Air Con

It was some e else who Picked it up for me and they know a lot less about cars than I do so I will ask the mechanic when I take it back in next week for more work. In the mean time I will look to see if there are any fuses I can remove and I’ll look to see if the clutch feed is still connected.

    Air Con

I know but if there was a tangible advantage to removing it then I would go with that initial cost. I was wondering if there were any advantages/ disadvantages anyone could think of as to not having the unit working. What I mean by that is will their be more or less ware on any other engine...

    Air Con

Yes. In order to fix I would have to travel to another town to get de-gassed then back to my garage to have a new u it fitted and then back to another town to be re-gassed. That’s why the mechanic disconnected it as he knows that I don’t have hundreds to spend in a non vital element to the car.
