Will be towing our homemade caravan so accomms is sorted as long as can find a place to park. For full peace of mind makes sense to get new timing belt fitted while in UK. If not then would bring the Dayco kit. Been 11 years since bought the Landy and do everything myself except clutch &...

I would just like to say

Agree about the insurance, easier to sort before the journey. Thanks for the info about local garages, they all can do the work on a older Landy. The gearbox failed a year ago near Newcastle as got the replacement fitted by a Romanian guy in Newton Aycliffe, who never worked on a Landy before...

    Battery health testing

Yes a clamp meter on the positive wire with max setting activated. I agree that 45A seems low, would think it should be near a engine cranking amperage. I been searching online and youtube and lots of "reviews" thou none actually testing the current. Surely thats the point of stressing the...

Has anyone used Before n After, based near Rugby, for waxoiling.

Been doing v similar to you and using same Dinitrol vax. Ruined a carpet as used a radiator to heat the vax before application. The metal can burst! Now putting it in bucket with boiled water. My cheap shultz gun came with a 50cm thin pipe to get into cavities. Been doing a yearly topup on areas...

About a day from fully charged to the battery tester arrived and did the test. Guess the battery in knackrd as the fully charged voltage is 12.60. To stress the battery I ran the test 3 or 4 times and the results were v similar, resting voltage dropped to 12.57 Still feel the SOH is too high...

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Got the clutch replaced and learned dodgy non landy garage fitted it without the clip on the slace cylinder and some bracket other way around! The sound still persists and seems to be more than before incl hearing it when parked in neutral. Press clutch pedal and quiet. Been gathering quote from...

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Yes that is a option. Had the Landy for 10+ years and only needed recovery once. And only because I didn't know it as well as do today. The stop solenoid 12v was missing from alarm.

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Didn't try that yet, good suggestions and will do it. Did notice during engine on in neutral and keeping revs stable above idle can hear sound very quietly. When dipping clutch its quiet. So something is loose or shaking. Garage said sound comes from front of gearbox. Thinking now it could be...

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

If had the extra money would certainly go for what you are saying Good reminder about the Clutch cylinders as the shaft in the slave cylinder came out during the refit. Bought a spare set as a backup. Will get them changed at same time of the gearbox

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Agree what Mr Chaffey is the ideal option to go for when winning the lottery(Along with a galvanised chassis) Clutch was replaced with a LOF unit in April this year. Propshafts feels solid and I grease regularely + carry 2 UJ's in my spares box. Very tempting to go for both reconditioned...

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Yes abit of filings seems to be normal Just collected it from garage and spoke to mechanic and they had it running on 2 post lift and could hear the sound from front of gearbox. Seems to rule out transferbox. Suggested to change out both with 2nd hand units. Would much prefer a reconditioned...

    300TDI Gearbox or Transferbox

Hi When 300TDI Defender a soft grinding sound is coming from the transmission tunnel, gearstick area. Its specially noticeable in 3rd gear coasting downhill at 30mph. Can just about hear it when dipping clutch. Noticed going into 4th gear recently takes abit more effort than usual, could this...

Hi Bought a 300tdi alternator(as they had it in stock) from "More 4x4 Limited" near Bordon/Alton.
