I thought it looked like the front edge of the groove was flattened off a bit, like it had been clouted with something, look to the left of the centre of the pulley above it, maybe it's an illusion.

I've just had another look at your photo, the AC compressor (I think that's what it is) pulley, looks damaged on the front edge.

That's modern motors for yer, P38 was easy mainly because they put the tensioner in a sensible place but, the design went back to the 90s before, the acccountants didn't consider or care who has to service/repair them, all they think of is £££, got similar on my Focus, hoping to change the...

That don't look good, could be a rough pulley wearing the edge of the belt hopefully, it's just a duff belt, can happen sometimes, good luck.

If the starter motor wasn't turning, would stilll be drawing current and, could be getting hot, boiling diesel, one spark and, ignition, think he was lucky it didn't catch.

There was me thinking, why put all those dirty engine parts on a pristine back seat and, not in the boot? but, end of the day not that important.:rolleyes:

My thoughts exactly, can't beat the good old P38 full chassis, it seems the newer the vehicle, the shorter it's design life.

Know what you mean, it's bloody freezing here got a job to do on my car but, waiting for parts, so no rush and, it might warm up a bit at the weekend.

Can you remove it from it's mounting leaving it connected, there might be a label or some numbers etc on the back which, might give you a clue as to what it is?

I had a tracker on my ML, if the subscription is not paid it will be inactive, I wouldn't worry about it.

You would think all this tech could display the actual quantity of oil in the sump, rather than just, oil level ok.:rolleyes:

No dipstick? bugger that, you know where you are with a dipstick, sensors can fail and give false reading.

Was a retractable tow bar an option on the L322? maybe you can get one retro-fitted.

I thought it was done through the dipstick tube, I prefer to drain it personally.

It's so when the tailgate is closed there is 5mm more of the seal to compress, creating a watertight seal, that's the theory, it worked on mine, iirc it's an area either side of where the upper tailgate meets the lower one, it's in RAVE.

For some reason I was thinking you had a petrol, I forgot you'd gone diesel.:rolleyes:
