I thought it looked like the front edge of the groove was flattened off a bit, like it had been clouted with something, look to the
left of the centre of the pulley above it, maybe it's an illusion.
That's modern motors for yer, P38 was easy mainly because they put the tensioner in a sensible place but, the design went back to the 90s before, the acccountants didn't consider or care who has to service/repair them, all they think of is £££, got similar on my Focus, hoping to change the...
If the starter motor wasn't turning, would stilll be drawing current and, could be getting hot, boiling diesel, one spark and,
ignition, think he was lucky it didn't catch.
There was me thinking, why put all those dirty engine parts on a pristine back seat and, not in the boot? but, end of the day

Can you remove it from it's mounting leaving it connected, there might be a label or some numbers etc on the back which,
might give you a clue as to what it is?
Ah yes, I forgot about the owners who never open the bonnet but, run to the stealer every time a light or message

It's so when the tailgate is closed there is 5mm more of the seal to compress, creating a watertight seal, that's the theory,
it worked on mine, iirc it's an area either side of where the upper tailgate meets the lower one, it's in RAVE.
