Rattly, jingly chattering from underneath my 300tdi

My 1998 Disco 1 300tdi manual ES is making a very odd sound. It's been doing it for a few months now, on and off, but today it's constant. Hard to describe but over about 5-10mph there's a sort of chattering rattling sound, like a loose lightweight chain flapping against something hard. It's not...

    TD5 ECU Remap

He actually does loads of different diesels - just specialises in TD5s. He also does boat engines if you're interested ! Take a look at the dynachip website.

    TD5 ECU Remap

Read this thread for my thoughts on a dynachip re-map of my 2003 TD5 http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/what-difference-re-map-makes-98382.html Hope that helps.

    What a difference a re-map makes!

I don't know the actual figures - it wasn't set up on a dyno. The max torque increase was set at 24% with an average of 20% from 1200 to 4000rpm. I think the original power was 137 (?) so that could be as much as 170bhp. Oh, yes, I know. I'm trying to be restrained and only use the power when...

    What a difference a re-map makes!

Right, just done some basic pereformance tests today - nothing fancy, just using the speedo and my wris****ch. I was being quite gentle with the car - normal performance testing is brutal but I have to use this truck for a good few years yet! No idea what the original figures were but here are...

    Ecu cant be re-flashed

Mike Jones at Dynachip can do pretty much the same. Dynachip profesional ecu remapping

    What a difference a re-map makes!

I doubt they would check ! Just been out for a proper drive in it and it's now much better on the motorway. It's surge performance - say 60 to 80 - is vastly improved but the really rough patch from 3000 to 3500 is still there, unchanged, which is a shame. Anybody out there found a cure for...

    What a difference a re-map makes!

The chap's name is Mike Jones and his website is Dynachip profesional ecu remapping. He travels all around the UK doing remaps and ECU swaps (for early TD5s). He carries Nanocom, Genius, Testbook and IDS(?) kit so he can deal with pretty well all LR ECUs - TD5, TD4, TDV6, BMW TD6 (P38), etc...

    What a difference a re-map makes!

Many thanks, good tips. I forgot to mention that the re-map was done by Mike Jones from DynaChip. A man who knows his TD5s, IMHO.

    What a difference a re-map makes!

How long did the job take you, BigLad? Did you use a special downpipe or an early disco 2 one?

    What a difference a re-map makes!

Yep, no changes there (yet). The TD5 one is pretty good anyway, not like the tiny one on a tdi300. I will take the cat out one day too but no time to do that at the moment.

    What a difference a re-map makes!

Wow ! 40 minutes work with a 'lectronic gizmo and a laptop and I've got a whizzy Disco. After the almost undetectable gains from EGR removal, MAF, MAP and AIT cleaning and other fiddling around, the huge improvement from the re-map I had done yesterday is very very impressive :D. The truck...

oil leak is doing my head in

I did find a pictorial guide - not on this forum though - but I can't find any trace of it now. Try searching for "Wabco vacuum pump repair" and see where that leads you. It's really not a hard job, a bit fiddly but nothing to worry about.

oil leak is doing my head in

I'll bet it's a leak from the vacuum pump. I managed to repair mine (I'm assuming you've got a 300tdi here) and all it took was a couple of hours work plus about 6 M5 nuts and bolts and a tube of sealant. The cover is rivetted to the body but you can drill those out, remake the seal using...

Back boot seat assistance please !

I can't get mine to work either. I think the backs will only lift into place when the bases are thoroughly locked into the boot floor - apart from that, there's no real trick to them, I believe.

    disco 2 rear door

Apart from the obvious pair of hinges, there's also the stay in the bottom right hand corner. That needs oiling too. The doors are always very heavy to open and need a good slam to close properly (unless there's a window open). When the hinges really wear, the bottom left of the door can...

    disco 3 opinions

Definitely the D3 ! I'm driving past this one at ProMotors every day at the moment - working in Bournemouth for a couple of weeks - and it looks quite sparkly, I must say. My mate has just bought an 06 with similar spec and it is very very impressive to drive. Much more refined than either my...

    Facelift headlight problems

Sorted ! Just fitted a matching set of bulbs ( Philips +50% H7s all round ) and the light patterns are now really rather good. No gaps, good penetration and spread with excellent dipped beam control. Very icy down here in Hampshire this week - lots of Landies being driven around with smiling...
