The right method to test a Defender handbrake on MOT

Just wondering if they are letting all four wheels spin or their rolling road? Isn't it bad for a Landy's transfer box to have only one axle spinning for too long? I was always told it was a good way to bugger the difs in the transfer box.

    best-and-worst-land-rover-tuners

apparently it was owned by a fishing team, and they would drive the car from where it was parked in the photo to the beach behind it and use the car to haul in the nets. So not much turning to be done.

I don't know who, or what did this, it might be standard, but this looks great for me.

    90/110 rear door mods

here's some photos of how it looks... We went for this system as we use the car mostly for camping / touring and we cook off the back door so a cat flap made sense for rain cover and keeping the system we had already in place. With the rear carrier we have to close the catflap first so we...

    90/110 rear door mods

I just put a cat flap on my defender to go over the rear door. It was a 110 double cab pick up that's now a station wagon. Hence the need for a door top part. The bottom is on the same two hinges it always was. Not a lowering down, but a swining out door. So a normal door cut in half. The cat...

    Chassis holes

I should add the car is 1985 build and as far as I know there have been no repairs to the chassis (that i've found at least) and it's still the original.

    Chassis holes

I'm fitting a roll cage to my 110 and while getting things in place, noticed a little problem. My rear cross member doesn't seem to have the holes all the way through where the roll cage bolts too. On this photo (on the left side) there are two holes almost on top of each other. One my...

Windscreen wipes when I flash the headlamps

I have tried a 3.5t jack on the steering wheel. It. will. not. move. To get to the wires I remove the binnacle and go in from the top / back.

    How "fast" is your defender?

I recently replaced the 300tdi I had in the defender with another one. WOW the difference. I would really have to work hard to get to 70 before. Using all the downhills and ragging it hard on the flat. realistically I used to do 55-60 on the motorway... NOW... it easily goes to 75, can see 80...

Defo an error in the build. That should not happen.

    Soft Shackles

dyneema (the rope material) is great stuff. never used them without a jacket as rubbing / friction will cause it to melt fast. as others have said they are very easy to make. the ones you have seem to be (meant to be) stitched in place, but its very easy to simply put one end inside its self...

Modifying roof rack to accommodate tent and canoe/kayak

you could open your tent over the rear, and it could over hang a little that way when folded up (mine does), then a brownchurch (?) slightly forward hanging roof rack and you might have enough space to either have the canoe forward of the tent, or slide it fwd (rather than taking it off) when...

    wiper issues

It'll either be as mick says, the cable not connecting onto the large cog, or.... if you bought a cheaper whiper wheel box part (not judging, I have before) then the arm that sticks out through the bulkhead might have lost connection to the larger cog that turns it. I had some craps ones (blue...

    Body work ideas needed

Good tip. I have to say that the thought of doing all that painting work is still making me think of covering the holes instead. I'm working out how easy it would be to bend some cheq plate to the curve.

    Body work ideas needed

hmmmm. that looks interesting. Just did a little youtube watching on that. So I guess sand it back to bare metal, fill it, and then prime / paint it back. I will have a look at this although I've gotta say having stripped and painted to van sides and roof, I'm not enthusiastic to do more body...

    Body work ideas needed

even the smallest one is probably 8mm in diameter. I don't think filling rivets would do it. The roll cage I have might need to be raised a little anyway to fit over a few little bits on the roof so I was thinking about shims, and just extending them to do the whole side.

    Body work ideas needed

I've finish my double cab to station wagon conversion and have one last little issue to figure out. When it was a double cab it had a canvas back, and there were holes drilled into the body to hold the canvas. It also had a roll cage frame bolted to it. I have another (now longer) roll cage...
