    Rear seats, 1985 90.

Has anyone successfully changed their 90 to a four or five seater on the V5C after adding rear seats?

    Rear seats, 1985 90.

I went through this dilemma a few years back- how to safely seat two kids in the back of a 90 and maintain useability for carting around loads when needed. Firstly, I completely discarded the notion of side facing seats. probably OK carrying adults on a hunt, off road, but not for kids. Lap...

Do you meant that you have fitted a new battery and starter motor?

    Clutch Issue

Mike at Britannica Resorations in Canada does a good kit to uprate the clutch fork. Unfortunately it's a common failure point.

If you are going to change the timing belt, you may as well fit a new water pump, timing case and crank seals too. Often the bolts through the timing case can be quite corroded, so be prepared to replace one or two, possibly helicoil.

    Steering a bit knotty

Have you checked your belt? If it's slipping when the steering is loaded, that won't help!

Series 3 109 Six Pot Rebuild Thread

Good to see a six cylinder S3 being saved. Looks like you have got your hands full though, but I'm sure it will be well worth it. Did Richard's respond positively to their apparent mistakes? Good luck!

    SP Rear Door delivery...

Fair play. I don't cost my time for work for myself and hate fitting components that are worse than the original. At least the old door will live on :-)

    SP Rear Door delivery...

I've been down the SP route- perhaps I'm not very forgiving, but never again. Is your door repairable? I've just done mine with some standard box section and some cheap skins from eBay. I was careful to isolate the frame from the panel, and although it took a good few hours, at least I've...

    Ole blue S3 88 2.25 Diesel

Lovely looking Series. Some nice work you are doing. Have you watched "My 911" on YouTube? He has restored his old series 3 which looks very similar to yours. Great series of videos to watch.

    Rear axle ball joint

Give it a good soak in penetrating oil (not WD40) or even diesel a few days before you start. That should at least help free off some off the rust. You have a lot of underside general corrosion which needs attention sooner rather than later. Don't be tempted just to spray it in your favourite...

1983 Land Rover SIII 109 diesel truck rebuild

How about bonding some thin strips of aluminium behind the panel holes, allowing to cure, followed by a thin a skim of filler on the visible side? The resin tends to fill the holes and can be flatted off with some 180. Any remaining imperfections can be dealt with by a minimal amount of filler...

    Chassis

If you have the money, a new chassis is a great option, but I have seen many replaced when some much cheaper repairs could have extended the life of the original considerably (10 years+?). As everyone knows, the rear crossmembers are notorious for rot, so are the front dumb irons and outriggers...

    Dash board trim

Nick, was it wise to remove the foam moulding? I probably would have left it in place and repaired any splits with expanding foam, then recovered. I have just done this to mine and was quite pleased with the result. Trying to recreate the original shape seems like an unecessary challenge to me...

Back door for 1992 Def 90 with a tyre on the outside

I cannot personally recommend SP4x4 (now SP panels?). I purchased a rear door and that had to go back. I see Bearmach are now selling their products, so maybe the quality has improved? I ended up rebuilding mine myself with new skins. It's not difficult, but I understand that most people would...

    1989 Defender Heater

The original seal on my shed was made from open cell foam, but the replacement was closed cell foam, which was a darn site to compress in my case. Perhaps the material properties are wrong and it should be more compressible? Well, it did come out if a blue bag......!

    1989 Defender Heater

I've just been faced with the very same dilemma this week. My seal also had c.20 mm extending beyond the metalwork, which seemed too much. The way I fitted mine was firstly to wipe the surfaces with solvent to clean off any residues and then glue it to the heater box using high temperature...

What’s best for removing rust from chassis

I use 80% phosphoric acid on all rusty steel parts. Once flaking rust has been removed, paint it on, wipe after a few hours and then leave to dry for 24 hours prior to priming. It's very effective and a lot cheaper than buying branded rust removing products. Obviously H&S precautions need to be...

90 Tub to side panel seals

Thanks Mackers, but as I am fitting new seals, I am expecting them to actually do their job! How hopeful of me for a Landrover part! As per Mick's suggestion, I am going to try the series seals.
