    Lr2 written off

What a dreadful experience! Thank goodness you survived . It'll take a while to get over this but in the meantime, stay safe.

Waxoyl - thought it was water resistant!

Lynall's dead right. You do need to treat your chassis and bulkhead annually. I too had faith in Waxoil and Hammerite but have come to the same undiplomatic conclusion mentioned earlier. Both have their uses, I coat my lady's pond heron with Waxoil and use Hammerite on some external metalwork...

    Time to galvanise?

Replacement outriggers are readily available and not too expensive, though pointless if the main box sections are rotted. I would inspect thoroughly before lashing out on a complete replacement. Litch's earlier post, where he discovered his old chassis was relatively sound, is salutary. My 1991...

How to best look after 300tdi engine in the long run.

I echo everything huddy and lynall advise. In my case, a 200 Tdi, I change oil and filter every 3000 miles. I've been doing this for 24 years and the engine still attracts positive comment from Mot and other interested observers. I'm more relaxed with the fuel filter though, changing that...

    Ineos Grenadier

I can see why people like it. But Defenders like mine are an anachronism; retro is a dead end. What we need is a capable, rot resistant, reliable and fixable platform that is easily adapted for multiple uses. I favour something like the new Defender only cheaper and less complex. That it is a...

Safari tailgate chequer panel fix. Pop riveter, rivet size query.

First of all, thanks to lynall, frog hopper and Beneagles. Lynall for his advice on riveting, frog hopper for his note of caution and Beneagles for his advice on choice of tool. I have heeded you all and am pleased to have completed the task without mishap. In the end I went for a hand riveter...

Finally can justify making a member after years of daring to buy a defender...

Well done Doc Dan! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. I bought my 110 as a work tool at an auction in Exeter some 24 years ago and it just grew on me. I've pumped Waxoil, sump oil, and linseed oil into all hollow places as well as coating the underside since the beginning and it is...

Safari tailgate chequer panel fix. Pop riveter, rivet size query.

I don't plan to make a career out of it so that may well be the way forward with a better chance of coming out of it with my fingers. Thank you lynall and frog hopper, you've been a great help. Thank you for that Beneagles. 20 projects, and 30 years, Would make me very happy! Cheers
