    Striped gearbox drain plug hole!

Thanks for going to the trouble of finding it :) Looks like I may have to do it myself as so far no garages want to touch it, they have said as much!

    Striped gearbox drain plug hole!

Not a bad idea that! Been looking for tapered repair plugs but not having much luck so far. Anyone know the size of the original plug? Cheers

    Striped gearbox drain plug hole!

Looks really interesting but not sure it would work as the hole is not very deep before it has a gear to contend with! (And the sealing face is covered with chemical metal now-doh!)

    Striped gearbox drain plug hole!

Seems to have failed in this instance! Just a drip so will last a good while but need a permanent solution. I'm going to see if my local garage can weld it up, tap it a size up or helicoil etc but failing that I may have to drop the oil (again! And clean it up nice and try JB weld. Cheers

    Striped gearbox drain plug hole!

Hi guys, Decided to finish changing all the fluids to LR spec and put proper MTF94 in the gearbox, which has made the gear change lovely btw. One problem, I managed to strip the drain plug hole of thread!!! It's bunged up temporarily with chemical metal but it's showing signs of weeping :(...

Anybody interested in a batch of smaller more compact back boxes...?

Randomly, I had to replace the rear box on mine a few weeks back as it failed leaving it unattached and I would say that it was hardly any louder which I was surprised at. It's a td4 so I'm guessing the turbo goes some way to change the exhaust flow etc. The aftermarket one I got is a fair bit...

    Fuel filter strange Oring

The new filter didn't come with one, just the normal outer sealing ring. The car runs fine but I can always pop the filter back out if needed and fit it?

    Fuel filter strange Oring

Changing the fuel filter on the p38 diesel. I found this on the old one but not on the new one. Is it needed on the new filter? Cheers all

    Still no brakes - ARRRRRGH!

I would pump some fluid the other way through the system (same now it's all clean) or at least get a hand vac pump and suck the fluid through. Can the abs module be put into bleeding mode? That's an interesting question..

    Window tinting laws

I believe that something like 70-80% light must get through the front windows but no laws as to the others (think van) I have had 70 on rear windows before and it's been dark

    Dumped autobox oil

Update is that all is well with the p38 after a set if new pipes and a new cooler, new fluid of course. Phew!

What fluid do I use in the clutch cylinders?

Dot 4 is fine, technically the two parts of master and slave joint together with a quick connect and 'technically' you don't need to bleed but it doesn't always works that way. I found after many attempts that the best bleed method is the 10 pumps then open the nipple for a second then close...

I would say have the tracking done by some one that knows range rovers and it should improve

    1996 P38 2.5dse auto gearbox problems

Now now! I was actually agreeing with you that the sensor was an integral part of the gearbox shift pattern. I agree that the preset is used when the sensor goes out of range as you have said. The glow plugs may well come on but they didn't stay on. Basically op could see if the temp sensor was...

    1996 P38 2.5dse auto gearbox problems

I can confirm that removal of the ecu temp sensor causes the shifts to occur only at high revs, a default like pattern of shift. I can also tell you that it does not make the glow plugs stay on any more than normal, that I noticed. I know this because I tried removing the plug to see if it had...

vibration at speed after new VCU

I had this once with Brit part bearings, the rubber surrounding them was solid and sent the vibration through the car. Fixed with better bearings. The rubber should be soft and easily deformable with your finger get under and poke around!
