    welding gas

not sure why CO2 would cause brittle welds, AFAIK the gas is to sheild it from oxidising, CO2 is good at this, Argon better, as a result you need less argon to sheild than you do CO2??? Seeing as a big pub bottle costs me around £11 a fill, and everyone else I know uses CO2 for general work, Ill...

check the wastegate on the turbo too, if its stuck open you wont get boost properly, youd still get to max boost, but youd not be getting much pressure until you got there.

    Tablet for navigation

Reet. I did have a 7" tablet for navigation that died recently. So, im looking for a new, cheap tablet to use in the landy. Im looking at about £100 for it, so I know its a cheap jobby, but the last one lasted 3 years for £50, and if I drop a sub £100 tablet in a puddle im less likly to cry...

    Insurance and named drivers

Cover for other cars isnt usually included till they get to 25. They changed this to stop young drivers buying a 1L micra, insuring it and then driving "daddys" Impreza under the "other cars" cover. Seems to be dying off for other policys now, I had to ask for em to put it on mine, didnt cost me...

    300TDi Heater

If everythings working fine, it should be more than lukewarm, mines a 300, and once up to temp I cant keep my hand over the vent on hot. if its only luke warm, but the gaugle is about 1/2 way, the heater matrix probably wants cleaning & flushing.

DRL Lights defender 90 bumper legislation and laws

Dont see why not, you see loads of trucks with more than one pair of "side lights" on em, IIRC as long as one pair of lights is in the correct position, then the others are "supplementary lighting" and not part of the construction and use regs, as long as they dim I dont see an issue, I cant see...

Which additional gauges are most usefull

EGT, Oil pressure, oil temp (as Ive always found oil to change temp before the water) volts, boost are my extras :) Revs pointless on a deisel imo, your never going to need to rev it high enough to need to monitor.

    Plates - Private & Ally

I'm of the opinion why give them reason to pull you over. once they have you by the side of the road the fine toothed comb can come out and everything checked. I'd rather them have to look hard for a reason to stop me thanks. Depending on where you live incorrect plates are a prime reason for...

    Vaccum lines defender 300tdi

Ok, so having decided my right leg is aching a bit more than it should, I checked to see if my brake servo is working. It isnt... TBH I think its the vac pump, I had the "clicking" a week or so ago, and the brakes are now a tad heavy, but it would be stupid not to check the cheap option first...

    britpart universal joints

just get OEM, look for the "G" on the end of the code, which the bearmach ones sound like, I usually pay around £15 for my 300tdi ones for GKN units. All "genuine" ones are is GKN in a Landrover box, you pay the extra £20 for the landy box...

    Is supermarket diesel really cheaper?l

More likly the stuff the DONT add... TBH, id be surprised if most of it isnt placebo effect on what it runs like, especially on the TDIs, which are designed to be run an poor quality fuel found abroad. Fuel is made to an EN standard, the "brands" put in various addatives to make it "better" If...

    inner tubes

there are slim valve ones, but you can get an adaptor for them. If you have wide valve holes (usually on tubed rims) dont use slim valves without the adaptor, they will chafe on the edge of the hole and fail prematurely (ask me how I know :/) I get my tubes from a local tyre place that does all...
