I suffered a Run away diesel

Quick update, it's taking a while due to being busy at work. 😞 Removed injectors and stripped each one and cleaned. Looked like the washers were leaking so obtained new ones, re assembled with ridge towards injector(I'll explain why if I need to) New compression check and I got a really healthy...

I suffered a Run away diesel

Compression test done, I don't know why but I did one cold first. Lol Cold. Hot 1-310. 300 2-315. 275 3-290. 315 4-360. 340 As 10% goes ..... Think we've failed there What is that result telling you guys? I've checked the cyclone...

300tid tappet style noise, but only under load?

One thing it could be which is a hard find but costs nothing to check. It can sound like a metallic tap. Head gasket can fail on piston 4 and compression gasses escape. Find the bottom of the cylinder head and follow round to the rear of the engine. The bulkhead is right up against it so not...

I suffered a Run away diesel

New exhaust done but still not running correct. I notice when starting cold now it's difficult, have to press accelerator to start after hanging on the starter for a while. When it does start it almost as if it's on 2 cylinders because while holding accelerator down a bit and not moving it will...

Ran 300TDi low on coolant ~1300km

Good it's running better, the 300tdi doesn't always need toppign up. It will find it's own level and stay there. What I mean is, if it drops, keep an eye on it, if it stays there day after day then that's it's preferred level. If it keeps dropping then there is an issue that needs finding. Temp...

I suffered a Run away diesel

New turbo fitted, New cam belt and pulleys. Timing set and valve clearances done. Started and sound okay. Took for a spin. Okay till on motorway. White smoke and lack of power at very top end. After speaking to James Martin it would seem that most of the smoke is coming from the exhaust...

Ran 300TDi low on coolant ~1300km

The 300tdi engine should be easy to fill up with water, it self bleeds, did you put a hose pipe on the pipe inlets for the heater to flush out any crap. Previous owners love RTV gasket but put too much on. It then squishes into the inside and blocks things. Mine was terrible when I first got it...

    Aux pulley mount replacement.

Repair was an option as yes, I can weld and could easily weld a nut to it. My thoughts were balancing, but when I spun I it wobbled. Not like a buckled wheel but like the pulley wasn't central......?

    Aux pulley mount replacement.

I said it a was sexy as the guy on eBay makes them himself and is round. No wings for each bolt hole to snap off

    Aux pulley mount replacement.

Hi, does anyone know if the fan belt pulley is available and replaceable? Now, I don't mean the actual pulley I mean the bit it bolts to. Four bolt holes and I assume press fitted to the bearing. Just discovered one of my bolts is loose. On further inspection it is broken. A previous owner had...

I suffered a Run away diesel

How the hell does one replace the metal/rubber oil seal on the front timing cover. I've removed the old one but I don't want to hit the new one too hard in case I brake the case. Any advice please 🙏 Edit, Went to my garage down the road. He lets me use his press. Oh wow! How easy was that...

I suffered a Run away diesel

Thanks, but not too worry, I already knew. This car is a MY98 on. T plate. It's one of the last ones the sold in 1999 as a Safari edition. Due to its age it obviously has the later type, which is the one I've bought. I've also got kit with both the tensioner and idler. I noticed some don't have...

I suffered a Run away diesel

Order from paddocks due tomorrow..... Hopefully. Timing belt kit and I took the liberty to add a few extras to make the free postage. New air con tensioner pulley as it's got a noisy bearing. Any gaskets and o rings for the oil filter housing as that looks like it's leaking. Plus the inevitable...

DISCOVERY 1 HEATER CONTROL PANEL BUST! REPAIR OR REPLACE?

Fill the back with JB weld or ct1 using cut up paper clips as a streaghtener. Or you could use a soldering iron and melt the plastic over to give a temporary repair before you fill the back. As regards making it look good from the front. No clue :-(

    Radiator issues?

Did you use a hose and really clean out the engine. Some people can get trigger happy with RTV. It then blocks passageways. Water pump not working or clogged maybe?

    Death wobble on a 300tdi

I had that once, panhard bushes. It's the arm that stiffens the axle to the chassis at the front. If bushes are worn to bad the axle can move side to side. :(
