    Rear breaks wearing strange

It’s normal to have one pad wear slightly more than the other, though that level of difference is usually caused by seized pistons or missing brake shields allowing more dirt/grit onto the discs. No ‘G-valve’ on a 110.

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

What make is the new chassis? You wouldn’t be the first person to get one with a bracket in the wrong place.

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

It’s possible the mounts on the axle have been put on in the wrong place, but unlikely. Have a look at these two threads - same issue being flagged. https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/47257-front-spring-alignment-on-a-90/ https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/85759-spring-alignment-on-new-build/

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

It’ll be fine with some weight on it. Make sure the radius arms are fully seated. There shouldn’t be any difference in length, they’re all the same. Marsland chassis have the later crossmember which is probably what your 4x4 chap is wrongly referring to.

Any Tips for setting the tracking on my 110

Tracking won’t affect that, unless it’s so far out the steering box runs out of travel. Lock stops as above. Tyres hitting the radius arm is also an MOT failure in theory. To set the tracking properly from an unknown position I do this: Remove front steering bar (drag link) Center the...

200TDI swan neck drop arm removal?

Other way around, it fits the 3-bolt and 4-bolt (Adwest) but not the 6-bolt (Gemmer) boxes. https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/defender-drop-arm-conversion-kit-stainless-steel/

    Rear axle ball joint

For getting the big nut undone I’ve always found the best way is to use a big ring spanner of the correct size (30mm rings a bell, or something in that sort of area) and then with your back braced against the tyre use your leg to push the spanner. Hopefully it won’t turn in the taper. Once the...

    SP Rear Door delivery...

Paddocks do an OEM door in the later pressed steel style, which are a fair bit stronger than the welded originals. Alternatively there a company in Northern Ireland called Mossside Landrovers who make reinforced galv doors which come with good reviews.

Can I change my 04 defender tax class?

Most Defender commercials are dual purpose vehicles, so can drive at car speed limits.

Stripped output shaft on the main gearbox perhaps, if diff lock does not restore drive.

    200tdi vs V8 chassis - different?

Engine mounts are in a completely different place. Gearbox mounts are different but the holes in the chassis are there on all of them so you just need the right mounts to bolt on.

    Marsland chassis help.

The only bushes that are different are where the rear upper A-frame link meets the chassis crossmember. The Marsland Chassis have welded-on brackets rather than the bolt-on crows feet brackets on older vehicles but the main difference is the bolt size. Marsland supply two sleeves with the...

200tdi Defender engine crank case breather cover...

I guess it was just a modification they thought worthwhile to aid crank breathing, same as how they changed the injector leakoff pipes from semi-rigid nylon to flexible rubber due to them vibrating loose. I doubt you will have any problems, but you could always get a later side plate, tube and...

Early 200Tdis didn’t have the crankcase breather.

    The devil you know....

Mileage isn’t really relevant with Land Rovers. Mines approaching 400k and I’m not concerned. A vehicle with 200k that’s been looked after and regularly used will be a much better prospect than one with 75k that’s sat around for significant periods or been neglected.

    This? https://yrmit.co.uk/product/110-mid-crossmember-hdg-pre-2007-lr-defender/ That’s for pre-2007, there’s a different version for 2007-on.

    Life span of a battery

When I bought my 90 it came with an old Halfords one, that died the first winter and I put a new battery on. That was 2008 and it gave up this spring with the lockdown meaning the car was sitting for 3 or 4 days without being used. Prior to that I was doing 25-35k per year and the battery never...

To cover or not to cover...that is the question.

You’d be far better off taxing it and using it, cars hate sitting unused unless in a nice warm garage. Running the engine while stationary will not really get it up to temperature and obviously won’t do anything for the transmission and running gear. But if you can keep the weather off it will...

    110 1971 White roof colour

1971? The 110 was released in 1983. 1971 would make it a Series II or III 109” and the roof would be more likely to be limestone than the later white.

    Washer Jet Upgrades

No need for a second pump or fancy nozzles, just put a standard nozzle in each of the two spare LHD wiper holes and add a T-piece with some more hose to each jet. Cheap and works perfectly. Did mine over a decade ago and had zero problems with it, you use a lot less fluid as well as it actually...
