The Insurance Claim will be interesting on this one...

About 30 years ago I was following a J4 towing a trailer with a new XJ6 on it. It was up a long steepish hill. About half way up the trailer started swinging, which got worse and worse until it inverted and also lifted up the back of the van. All this at no more than 40mph! It is amazing what...

    19J pound metallic knock

You might be able to narrow the noise source down by slackening in turn, each of the injector feed pipes at the injector. If the noise changes or stops you would know that it is cylinder related and indeed which one.

    Progress Todate

Hi, I did not have any problem getting parts. I rebored the cylinders and reground the crank. New valves, guides and tappets, cam belt etc. The parts and machining cost was around £800. I wanted to keep the vehicle as standard as possible......even though not the most powerful engine and a...

Any Tips for setting the tracking on my 110

On mine the length of the trackrod measured between the centers of the rod ends is 48.5". This might be a good starting point but I would get it checked by a garage with a tracking guage. Can't your MOT garage do it?

Registering Land rover for agricultural use

A chap near me has an agri series 3. He has a legitimate need for it as a crop sprayer in small fields. DVLA insisted that the pump was permanently fitted and driven from the power takeoff. It is now registered as an agricultural vehicle and insured as such. So not only can Plod get you for tax...

    Progress Todate

This is my engine progress todate... Reground crank, Rebore, New Valves and guides and followers, Hotspots,Timing Belt etc, etc, etc. I took the oil pump drive gear assembly to pieces as I was told the perished 'O' rings will cause low oil pressure. Well the inner one was missing and the outer...

19J Head Gasket, Which Way Is Up?

Thx for the reply. That was my what I thought. The workshop manual is clearly wrong!! What does the oil feed hole do, as the rockers are lubricated from the external oil feed pipe.

19J Head Gasket, Which Way Is Up?

My engine is coming together quite well. I am now about to fit the cylinder head. The manual states that the head gasket should be fitted with the embossed ''Diesel" uppermost. Well my new gasket does not have "diesel" stamped on it and the old gasket, which has, was fitted with the diesel...

    Gasket Location

I am at a loss to find where the 'triangular joint washer' item number 23 goes on my 19J. I thought that it went on the block behind the timing belt tensioner....but in no position does all 3 holes line up with anything. Could it be for a petrol engine with a timing chain and hydraulic...

    Unrecognised Part

Could someone please tell me what this is. I have just started to put my engine together....after taking it apart 18 months ago......how the memory fades!!! It was in the box with the timing belt pulleys, but as it is black and oily it may not be from that area. It is about 30mm long x 8mm...

    Brake Pedal Return Springs

Thx for the reply......The washer with the tab on is for the single spring on the clutch pedal. I have the answer now......there are two small brackets deep in the pedal housing....looks a pig to get the springs on!

    22 air rifle

Had a similar situation earlier in the year. Rats are opportunists and trainable. Every day at 4:00pm I put out some food......after a few days the rat and now his mate! came out to eat the food. After a few days they became very bold and would let me get within a few yards of them. A .410 did...

    Wanted Rear door part

Hi, I am looking to buy the part in the photo. It's the loose tapered part that engages with the corresponding part fitted to the tub door latch. Thx in anticipation.

    Electrics

Thx for this......yes that is the unit......so have I got 'dim dip' then. I will temporarily fit the headlamps (sealed beam) and see if anything happens. I'm guessing that then driving without lights on that the headlamps will glow dimly....is that correct?

    Electrics

I am getting to grips with the electrics on my 1989 110 restoration. So fat I have found that the indicator/horn/flasher stalk is defective, as is the warning light display. Replacement parts are on their way. I have a wiring diagram but appear to have a component that is not included. It is a...
