P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

The car is a 1996 GEMS 4.6 which had a single exhaust which was replaced 5 years plus ago due to it being totally knackered. The exhaust I replaced it with a Direnza twin tailpipe exhaust which meant re-routing the hard lines along the rear axle to make space. There is a large pipe that runs...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

Update. Bumpy ride to friend's workshop. On the bump stops the exhaust (custom 3" rear pipes) had burnt through one of the flexi brake hoses to the point that I had a low brake fluid message pop up after 5 miles or so. Also burnt through ABS sensor cable. Pumped up deflated and folded air...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

Got the Schrader valves. Going to somebody local to the car that has a good shop compressor. If any bags are split I will swap the damaged one out before heading on....

Ah. I can see I need to update my address. There are always some to forget. I am actually 150-160 miles away.

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

I suspect that may be the case. Question is now..... What do I do to just get it moved and usable over winter.....? Coil springs = No. Pointless. Dunlop bags = Seem to last a little longer than Britparts. Britpart bags = Need to change in next year or 2-3. But half the cost now. Hmmm .

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

Update (or not) Well my car has been stranded outside a family member's house since this happened. I have found it difficult to find the time to get there and spend time on it, but when I do its a 6-7 hour round trip. I have soldered some of the connections behind the kick panels, but its a long...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

With the fact that the 2 fronts certainly look folded over, I am guessing the only way to properly inspect these is by physically removing them and putting a little air in manually then washing them over with soapy water? The rear is so low I can not see under at the moment. I will start at the...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

I need to do both. It is not inflating at all, well at least not lifting. That could be the hard fault causing the problem. I think I need to establish good comms and also check the bags. I may be able to reset the hard fault, then test for leaks. If I need to inflate to jack it up and check...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

10 years ago it failed an MOT due to an EAS fault that appeared at the time of the MOT, caused by leaking bags. All 4 bags were then replaced with new Dunlops. They have been perfect until now. I (as we al do) spend a lot of time under the car staring up, so I am sure I would have noticed...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

It was on the bump stops within an hour or so of them completing the work and it was lowered.

I cannot say whether the rear hatch was left open or not.

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

I was charged 4 hours labour to fit the steps, so it was dangling at least 3, could be more.

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

The bags are Dunlops fitted 10 years ago and have seen about 3-4K miles a year.

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

I know what the manual says, and after 15 years or more of ownership I know what the lights mean when in general usage. However, I am positive I read only a week or so ago that you can also use this combination to determine where a fault is at a high level. These 2 lights are on solid. No...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

You can think what you want. I just said it is suspicious that it failed within about an hour of coming off of their ramp. It may have failed immediately it was lowered, it is just I did not pick it up for an hour or 2. I have not mentioned their name, as they are generally good guys. They...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

Thanks guys. I am going to be busy again Saturday then. I think the EAS cables only go via the passenger side, so I will start there first. The OBDII socket is a little corroded too. Exactly the same issue. I have a new one, plain socket and one with fly leads. I may well replace that too...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

OK maybe filing is too strong a term. I used a very small pointy needle file to drag over the pins and scrape the corrosion off. then sprayed clean with contact cleaner. This resulted in me getting a good idle on the link to EAS Unlock. Engine running. These seem to be the faults logged: RL...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

Update, but not much of one. Emergency inflate valves removed. What air was in there was still in there as it shot out when pulling the valves. I jumpered the EAS relay and the compressor comes on. Nothing odd there as it is brand new. I cleaned the contacts in the multiplugs behind each kick...
