    Intermittent fault - Def 90 td5 p10

A Little update, I had cleaned the MAP before, but today cleaned MAP and MAF. I checked the MAF has power and it registering a low voltage at idle which it is. I hooked the computer up and can see live data, all done static on idle, whilst watching it, I noticed a anomaly on the MAF presser, a...

    Intermittent fault - Def 90 td5 p10

Hi all, just finished the rebuild on the td5 and it’s developed a fault... Engine light comes on and then no throttle. Turn off and on and clears itself. read it with a Delphi reader which is showing a over boost fault... I’ve had the actuator off and tested it with vacuum pump, working...

    Re-Chassis / build progress 90 TD5

ha!! I stated off with good intentions of trying to document the whole process... but then you get a bit giddy and forget to take them!!! I have a good selection, I might do a post on it and fill the gaps with words... but here are a couple for ya ;)

What have you done to your Landie today.

Cheers @v8250 I appreciate the comments. Want to keep it honest but make it mine. And celebrate the fact it’s got a galv chassis so kept the lower sills in raw ally with clear coat. Still have interior to do, I’ll update as she goes.

What have you done to your Landie today.

thanks everyone, its pretty much been rebuilt from scratch, would probably have been cheaper to build one from parts ;), with every panel straighten and hammered back to original and a fresh lick of paint. Its kept me occupied through lock down!!

    Defender td5 - no power

I do, hence why I fee a little stupid now. And I had checked all the fuses that were there!!! Only found it was missing from taxing the wiring. Again thank you for following this through! It is interesting tho, that the alarm Ecu is standard across all models and obviously has functions...

    Defender td5 - no power

Ok... so feel like a absolute d***, but on the up side, it’s fixed. someone (I hasten to add not me) had take the bloody fuse out!!! I thought it was just a spare space, till I traced it back on the wiring diagrams... basically alarm Ecu wasn’t getting any power. Hence not communicating with the...

    Defender td5 - no power

So can get the engine to crank and start, then stops within 3 seconds... Turn ignition off - wait 10 seconds and same again... So it’s got to be a signal to the Ecu from the alarm Ecu.... any thoughts?

    Defender td5 - no power

Ok, so based on smell of diesel does this mean the injectors are potentially working? might try the bump start later, have to get it out of the barn first tho!!!

    Defender td5 - no power

That was my thinking too, but there definitely is the alarm Ecu box behind the dash and the black and orange from the starter relay goes to it. diesel - yes there is a whiff from the exhaust. just done the prime 5 times, and cranked sounded like it tried, but lost power, so battery back on...

    Defender td5 - no power

Earthed the wire, Cranked it first thing and it started... then stopped pretty damn quick... Trying the bleed / prime procedure... and charging battery again... is that a good sign? Or could it be diesel got past the injectors overnight?

    Defender td5 - no power

Morning. I’m going to go and try that now. My only thought at the moment tho, when the ignition is cranked, surely voltage must pass to pin 6... From the crank live of the ignition? As this completes the circuit... if that’s the case is the Ecu telling the alarm Ecu not to allow that circuit...

    Defender td5 - no power

Yes it was. When the ignition is at 2 - I’m going to say “normal” lights, engine light on then off, glow plugs on then off, oil and battery. When turn to 3/ crank - nothing... mulitlmemter says when at 3/crank, ignition to relay goes to 12v, but doesn’t activate the relay... Hence thinking...
