    diff building

you could possibly fit the 3.54 ring and pinion into the old 4.7 Series diff housing which has the required 10 spline centre, this will remove any bearing incompatability apart from possibly the one on the pinion shaft so you'd have to remove the inner race from both shafts and swap them over...

    Hardura maintenance

when i took mine off my bulkhead it was grubby as anything, i just used soapy water and a sponge to scrub it up clean and dried it off i then laid it on the floor and laid books all over it for a few days to flatten out the curls it had gained over the last 45 or so years

Chassis Leg / Spring Hanger / Dumb Iron Fabrication ?

i've no idea where the thread is on Divies dumbirons but i've had a bit of practice replacing them (3 or 4 pairs now i think) i've also gutted one pair on my 109 and rebuilt them i've been playing with hot metal glueing for a number of years now and i just take my time, look at the job...

    How to calculate top speed

my 200tdi powered 109 van body with 3.54 diffs and od will clear 80mph with 3 or 4cwt in the tub (always got some weight in there) and 7.50 tyres and would pull my old caravan past 60mph (turbulence/drag killed the top speed and mpg though) my 88" truck cab 200tdi powered will touch 85mph from...

    Servo brakes - what's needed?

yes fluid does flow through it but in seperated channels, if you then get a leak in either the front or rear the higher pressure in the other channel then pushes the "shuttle" towards the low pressure channel "flicking" the switch to turn the light on whilst shutting off the leaking line the...

    Servo brakes - what's needed?

don't bother with the shuttle valve (PDWA - Pressure Differential Warning Actuator) as it's not essential and all it really does is give you a tell tale light in the event you lose pressure in the rear or front brakes if you get a leak (the fluid is NOT linked through it) 10"sls brakes will...

    Will the front axel

a front axle from a 109 will fit an 88" and vice versa, as long as it's from a Series 2a or S3 without any troubles there's no point in confusing the issue with minor details of "rationalised" bearings etc' as it's the axle case that bolts to the springs

    series 2a reverse light

i buy the original bulbs at classic car shows, i have a couple spare as i have similar period driving/foglamps on the front as well, i've had a couple of bulbs vibrate themselves to bits so it's handy having spares it'd be nice to see a picture of your adaptor although i think there is a kit...

    1966 series 2a restoration

that's looking tidy and fair progress :) by the way a Series has no difflock, only selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive along with high and low ratios that is unless someone has fitted locking diffs in the axles, unlike the 90/110 models there is no centre diff

    series 2a reverse light

very similar to the one i fitted bottom mount lucas i think, i flipped the mount so that i could simply bolt it to a crossmember/tub mounting tab and fitted a switch that was operated when i selected reverse

Engine brackets: 2.5 petrol to a 200 Tdi Defender

hmm just re-read this thread... it appears the vehicle is a Series 3 the engine that is coming out is a 2.5 petrol from a 90 (removing it from the S3) and finally the engine that is being fitted is a 200tdi from a Defender now this particular engine IS different from the disco 200tdi in the...

Engine brackets: 2.5 petrol to a 200 Tdi Defender

i've fitted three 200tdi disco engines into 4 pot Series chassis' so far, 2 into swb and 1 into a 109 all 3 have been fitted in using the standard Series mounts without any problem actually it's 4 in total as i had to swap the 109 engine due to a serious death rattle appearing after i had a...

    Series disc brake conversion

this is looking pretty interesting, i'll be following this thread :) only thing i'm a little concerned about is the "spacer" idea to move the caliper away from your mount, this to my way of thinking gives you two possible shear points on each bolt and increased risk of the caliper attempting to...

How to get greece into swivel housing

i use low box (4x4) when necessary on hard surfaces with my FWHs disengaged due to having odd ratio diffs in my 109 (4.7 in the front axle, 3.54 in the rear) i've not experienced a problem because of it

Wrong clutch so which do we need?

i'd be surprised if the clutch fork could fail, it's not as puny as the ones fitted to defenders and discos plus if it did fail i'd expect the pedal to go solid as the slave reached the limit of it's travel just as it does if the release bearing collapses/seizes and melts the carrier i...

How to get greece into swivel housing

i had an axle where the seals were stuffed, the previous owner had pumped grease in there and all that happened with it was the UJ stirred it up and flung it outwards where it then stuck all around the inside of the swivel, water then still got in and sat in there attacking anything it could...
