    Td5 Defender Running Cold

I checked my coolant temp using a infra red thermometer on the hose and thermostat body. Thermometer measured 79*, new gauge showed 80*. Only way to know for sure would be to use a tube thermometer and dip it in the rad when up to temp. Infra red will give a good enough indication though.

    Price of scrap

It didn’t sell for £3000, I wonder what the reserve was. I’ve had a look and previous Rapier 127s have sold for £7500-£13000, so more than an average 127, but not ultra-rare money. There’s just way too much work involved, plus the finding of non-standard parts to make that thing worth more than...

    Price of scrap

…has certainly gone up. Yeah, yeah, this was built for the RAF to carry missiles, supposedly, but why on earth would you want this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-defender-127-/124992540463?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 the seller does say “it’s...

Looking for advice - bent chassis

Presumably your Landy was a write-off after the accident? And you’ve bought it back on the cheap? I’d be looking at getting a new chassis really, galvanised for the extra expense. I’d never trust a chassis that had been bent out of shape and 1/4 of it replaced. That’s just what I’d be thinking...

Voltage loss, fuse to heater plug

You may as well keep the low speed, I find myself using the high speed until the interior is nice and warm and then the low speed is good enough. Another good mod to do is to turn the lower blower vents upside down and swap passenger side to driver side. This way you’ll have nice warm air...

Voltage loss, fuse to heater plug

This is what I have done on mine. I now have a on-off-on toggle switch for the heater, works lovely.

Ehem. I can't start my Landy...

Yes, you need to really give it some to bump start a big diesel!

Ehem. I can't start my Landy...

Starter not required for a bump start, so may be something else as well?

Which would be better in snow?

Bet it was sat on a dog turd!

Which would be better in snow?

Proper winter tires, not just M&S or 3 Peaks, make all the difference. It’s why all the cold-climate countries don’t suddenly grind to a halt over the winter months.

Which would be better in snow?

Transits have always had a reputation for spinning on the smallest dog turd! I believe the latest models come with, or certainly have the option for, a limited slip diff.

    LEZ withdrawing exemption.

Historic status is given to vehicles 40 years old and older, on a rolling basis. So a vehicle will need to have been registered in 1981 if you were to apply for historic exemption in 2021.
