    Worst tool you've ever bought?

Tecumseh went bust, thankfully. Bloody awful engines! Honda every time for me thank you.

    Windscreen Fitting

I used a Britpart seal and got a local fitter to do it. Glad I did, it looked like a right pain! He really pushed the seal and screen to their limits! I left the seal in a bucket of hot water before he arrived. It is doable, but I understand the fitter’s reluctance to do it with a non-genuine part.

    Battery drain

Sounds like a diode has packed in on the alternator. Get it tested with a multimeter, they are repairable, although I’ve never done this myself!

    Defender 110 Jerking problem

^^ what tottot said^^ Jack a front wheel up, if diff lock is disengaged you should be able to spin it freely, diff lock engaged will prevent the wheel spinning - though there may be a little movement.

Has it been confirmed that it’s not stuck in difflock?

Is a landrover 90 station wagon a car or commercial vehicle?

So if I take a private plate off a Rolls Royce, does that make my Landy a Rolls Royce?

Is a landrover 90 station wagon a car or commercial vehicle?

I think with the introduction of the Puma variant all Defenders were classed as commercial. Before this, it depends on what’s on the V5. A station wagon should be a private vehicle, but they seemed to make it up as they went along. You won’t know until you see the v5 and changing its...

    A-frame x-member replacement.

Mine’s rotten, not worth repairing when a new cross member costs £240. Has any done this to their Landy (110 specifically)? It looks like there’s no need for the body to come off? Any tips more than welcome!

Hole in passenger footwell - MoT fail?

It’s covered with an ali plate, so no Flintstone action going on. It didn’t get much further through the MoT anyway, they aborted the test because of some chassis rot. I believe that it could have passed, as there only need to be 6 secure mounting points between body and chassis (so I’ve read...

Hole in passenger footwell - MoT fail?

Sitting in the garage and they’re trying to tell me the hole in the passenger footwell is a fail as it’s structural. Never been a problem before! I had to explain the difference between a ladder frame chassis and a monocoque construction as they didn’t know the difference! I thing I’m going to...

    DAB radio unit

Thanks! That looks like just the thing. I live and work mostly in the hills and valleys, so will be probably be on FM most of the time, but it will be nice to have access to DAB and my present unit is fooked anyway! I think I’ll ask be asking the beardy paedo for one of these on the big day.

    DAB radio unit

Any recommendations for a reasonably priced (sub £150 ideally) DAB single DIN head unit for the old bus? Will I need a special aerial, or does the standard one work? I need to choose a Christmas present and my current unit is playing up, so a new one will be good. I only specify DAB as I used to...

    Mobile mechanic Salford Manchester

I can’t help you with the mechanic, but having got a mechanic out to do the starter on my ‘87, I can confirm you are doing the right thing. What a ball-ache of a job it turned out to be!

    Earth issue thermometer gauge

From memory, there is an common earth point inside the engine bay on the bulkhead, near to the brake servo. Give this a good clean, better still, pop another earth lead between it and the engine. This should eliminate the issue. P.s The earth location may vary depending on the year of manufacture .
