    Dom's 88" rechassis

I was quite surprised - Britpart have a load in stock as do Ribble Valley. I was going to go with Craddocks but they wanted a lot of money to deliver and no help unloading and no certainty as to when they'd turn up. Ribble valley come out more expensive for the item (only a little) but are...

    Dom's 88" rechassis

Thanks Alan, I'm keeping nearly everything - most stuff apart from the chassis has been replaced/fixed up over the past couple of years. My plan is roughly: Pull through new wiring loom with extras for fog/reverse added if necessary Paint chassis next week (delivered Monday): spray...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

Aye, that was originally the plan but the 109 needs a gearbox rebuild and the bulkhead welding up then building up all the electrics. The SWB is in good running order apart from the chassis so hopefully it _should_ be a case of just removing big parts i.e. tub, chassis, engine + gearbox, axles...

    Dom's 88" rechassis

It gave me real pause for thought. I do a fair bit of driving in mine and if I'd has a even a modest crash I suspect that the chassis would have crumpled pretty pathetically just where I'm sat...

    Dom's 88" rechassis

A timelapse is a good idea - though knowing me and Dan that will just involve two drunk blokes asleep in front of a pile of broken Land Rover parts.

    Dom's 109" (re)build

That's Dan's Corrado - one of the reasons I need to get all my rubbish out of the way... The chassis was completely knackered at back and front but the middle bit was surprisingly sound. It's a legal requirement to destroy the old chassis if doing a like for like swap. Seems a shame but there...

    Dom's 88" rechassis

The daily drive failed its MOT a week or so back and since then I've been patching and cutting the chassis trying to make good. After a whole day of misery on Saturday I decided to give in and call it a day...I've just put in an order for a new galv chassis and me and my mate are going to try...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

Well, I've had a bit of a few set-backs. The daily drive 88 failed it's MOT with a cracked chassis and so I've been busy trying fix that up. However progress of sorts was made this weekend when my mate spent a couple of hours chopping up the old chassis to make room. I'm not sure how small the...

    Fuel tanks

I just ordered a Bearmach one from LRDirect. Now to find the time to patch the patches on the patches on the patches on the chassis. I'll try and takes some pictures of the horror of it all when I next go up there...for now its too depressing and I'm too busy. The thing I'm worried about is...

    Fuel tanks

Running gear has all been kept well or sorted - I'm in the process of rebuilding the gearbox for my project and was going to swap that into the daily drive - at which point the only stuff that hasn't been brought up to a good standard will be the bodywork (which I like a bit rough and ready to...

Fuel getting everywhere but wont start without help :-(

Also check that the floats are set right and not jamming - there's plenty of guides on the internet about how to do it. D

    Fuel tanks

My daily drive 88" has failed its MOT - a lot of cracks have appeared around the mid cross-member around the rear spring hanger. I've removed the fuel tank to fix/bodge these and in the process discovered a lot more welding that needs sorting - whoever repaired it in the past seems to have used...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

I may well be! I'll see if I can obtain clearance from control. James certainly is the man - I've not seen him posting much on this bit lately. I'll try PM'ing him when I'm closer to the point of ordering stuff. I got a bit further stripping down this afternoon - got the bell housing off...

    Engines and gearboxes???

I am a fan of the 2.25 petrol. With a bit of insulation and a decent exhaust you can get to a level of noise where you can hold a conversation or listen to the radio whilst driving at speed. In standard trim they run well - with the later DMTL carbs and a skimmed head you can get better MPG and...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

Cheers Alan, I'm squarely in the leave well enough alone. They're Timken bearings that are fitted. I tapped out the bearings on the output shaft of the transfer box tonight and both races and rollers looked pristine so I put em back. I didn't take pictures of those. I got a bit further, I...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

The green bible is always on hand and I do try to follow it. The transfer box gears don't look bad and after a good clean up with parafin the intermediate shaft and gears looked pretty new. I can't feel any steps in the mating surfaces of the gears so I think the transfer box is good to bolt...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

Thanks Sam, I'm not sure if its been heavily used or there's just been bad oil in there - it looked like it had never been changed. I'll try and remember a better camera next time and get some pictures of the gear and see what people think...they looked ok to me but I've not idea how worn is...

    Dom's 109" (re)build

Well, I've started stripping down to see what I've got. This afternoon I got the transfer box off for a look and it doesn't look too bad except for maybe needing a new pair of thrust washers for the intermediate gear the bearings seem ok and the 4wd unit all looks good. The thrust washers -...

    Ignition Timing and Carb setting

You may find that your distributor can take a lot more advance than the book says - depending on its age and the state of the springs you may find that anything upto 12 degrees (or even 15 if you use 98 ron) will work. Some newer lucas dissy's have quite differnt advance curves. The best thing...
