    Redex DPF additive

TBH a DPF regen is basically sitting there with the equivalent of a brick on the throttle - regardless of whether there's any additive put in the tank. It just needs to run hot for a period of time and an hour sounds like a long time - but I suppose the longer the cleaner! Someone like @lynall...

What have you done to your Freelander today

The F1 passed its WOF (MOT) again on Friday. I got an advisory that the LH drop link is toast. I've known this for ages, but I've now got to fix it. Its not done bad as the motor is 25 years old now. Am I likely to damage a drop link removing it? Wondering whether to take it off the parts...

Help removing broken front Indicator holder.

You may as well remove the bumper so that you can remove the whole lamp as it is likely to need changing. When the indicator went on mine it was because the contacts between the lamp and the bulb holder had burnt out. It sounds like that is what has happened to yours and it has melted the...

Freelander 1 Stuttering on start up?

If you say there is unburnt fuel, check that 1 or more injectors aren't leaking fuel into the cylinders overnight. Not sure how this is done, it may need a physical inspection. But it can cause problems with the engine if not addressed.

    Freelander 2 (LR2) New lad.

I've only had my 2010 F2 for a few months. Its joined a '99 F1 that I've had for 13 or so years. I'm more than happy with it. Its a great car. Performance and refinement wise, its in a different league to the F1 - however, I do also very much enjoy the F1. I do find the vision a bit...

    Having a nightmare

Think the hand brake light can also mean low brake fluid, so worth a check. If it is the hand brake, there is presumably a micro switch and connecting wire in the console between the seats. Can't remember from when I was last in there.

    the dreaded limp mode

There can't be to many Freelander owners further north than you are there. That's way north!

Freelander L314, does anyone know how to do the timing belt without using the flywheel locking.

If you're using drill bits as locking tools - you could drill through the pipe :vb-crazy: Yeh, maybe not such a good suggestion. The timing belt is the only job I send my L Series to a garage to get done. So not much help I'm afraid. Everything I read though says to use the locking tools...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Any advice for my odd MAF symptoms

The MAF is all about air flow. With no MAF, I presume the engine will assume no turbo asistance and therefore only allow what will burn in your 2.2L of engine - ie as if it were normally aspirated. With a MAF working (and the ECU recognising this) it will go by the amount of air going through...

    2WD conversion

Why didn't they just buy 1 that was still 4x4? There is an argument to buy a 2WD because they will be cheaper. Then buy a recon IRD, VCU, support bearings etc and you know you have an AWD Freelander with a transmission in good condition. However, it will cost you well over £2k for those...

    2WD conversion

Why do they want them put back to AWD though? They may want to go off roading. Which begs the question as to why they didn't buy 1 that was still AWD in the first place. They may fancy doing it as a 'project'. People may like tinkering with their cars and if there's no other maintenance to...

    Newbie back again

Yeh that's right. I've used then before and after that mistake and they've been fine. Its a long way down here (from anywhere!), so flights aren't cheap, but its a lovely place.

VCU Longevity when used mainly off-road

As you say, most offroad stuff is relatively low speed which won't harm. A lot is on or near lock though and a lot where traction may have been lost which will eventually harm. A lot is in low gear and plenty of gas I'd have thought that would mean high torque which might also cause eventual...

    Newbie back again

Wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. I ordered a load of stuff from LRDirect for my F1, including brake shoes. They sent a set (IIRC) for a D3 park brake. To their benefit, they didn't quibble. Apologised for their mistake and sent out the correct part same day...

Freelander 1 Help, damsel in distress

I'm not the one who decided to call the title "Damsel in distress". Obviously gender humour only works 1 way.

How the feck would she know that? Ask reasonable questions. What colour is it?

    Freelander 1 Rear prop uj's

You don't hear of the UJs needing replacement much. However, a number of years ago, I went and had a look at an F1 that was for sale cheap. The bloke was quite keen to let me know that it had just had new UJs on the prop shaft... not quite so keen to tell me that the gearbox had lost 3 gears...

    LR Freelander (1999) shaking

Was this the CV on the prop shaft going front to back, or 1 of the drive shafts going to a wheel?

    Coffre freelander

The window won't go up because it thinks the door is open. There is a sensor in the door locking mechanism that tells the 'computer', which controls these things, if the door is open (think its a/the blue plug) - it will likely ether be faulty or the mechanic forgot to plug the wire back in.
