    2.5 ton paperweight??

Yeh, I'm in the process of stripping & cleaning mine as well, it weird, if I scrape my nail across it, a gooey 'layer' is removed.:( There are 3 plugs in the doors, not used as the previous owner fitted high-power speakers etc. BUT, I see two original 'T' type plugs which obviously went to 2...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Ha Ha, nice one! I was about to order a set of air-bags, but I might hold off for a bit, I pressed them up manually from my tyre inflator a couple of days ago & they're still up, couldn't go via the newly rebuilt compressor as I've ripped out most of the electrics!!

    2.5 ton paperweight??

OK fellas, thanks, it may be a while yet, as im in the process of pulling out the dash, having a bit of difficulty removing the centre section at the moment, everything is loose, but it dosnt seem to want to part company for some reason!! Got to get the front carpet out of the way to address the...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

OK, thanks, ill get round to fitting it when the nuts & bolts arrive, it has the spline & gaiter one end, does it go to the front or rear, or doesn't it matter? ( Got the mallet ready for floorpan mods!! )

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Is/was there anything there that could have been taken out whilst flailing about??

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Ah-HA!! The plot thickens!! Whilst pulling all sorts of cables under the front carpet, I came across a fist sized bulge in the floor, turned out to be a hole!! Got the jack & had a gander & saw this ripped hole, looks very much to me to be prop shaft inflicted!! I have the shaft & it appears...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Just noticed on the car that the rear tyres are 255/45/20 & the fronts are 275/40/20. Upon checking the tyre calculator is shows a difference of overall diameter & revolutions per mile difference. Am I right in thinking that this may have caused a VCU failure?? Haven't got round to checking yet.

    2.5 ton paperweight??

No idea I'm afraid, you can see them on the photo in my first posting. What size should it have? My old P38 was on 16" rims. Do you think I should replace?

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Ah, ok, thanks for that. This car may not become a paperweight after all, its looking more positive as time passes, This morning I removed the 'hanging on by a thread' starter motor, completely wrong bolts fitted, no nuts!! Found a couple of suitable 'donor-bolts', cut & re-threaded to suit, &...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

OK, thanks yet again, ill get round to pulling the binnacle later & have a look. Back in '83 I lived & worked in Dubai & I rebuilt the V8 engine completely & also F & R diffs on my classic RR, no VC on that, but I seem to remember another diff in the transfer box, or is my memory failing me in...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Are you saying that the green matrix display is backlit then?
  17. M

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Thanks very much for that, since the car 'pushes' ok I'm inclined to think that the diff may be ok? Does the VCU simply unbolt & pull out? I DID just find the original radio plugs buried deep inside the housing, there are NO door-amps so do you thing my aftermarket FM/Dab radio with fit...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

So it's likely to be aftermarket then, there ARE outstations, but NO door amps, 2 sets of heavy blue wires go into each door, I haven't figured exactly how the wiring goes, but there's a huge bundle in the head unit area, but have simply been cut, no radio plugs at all, then there's a...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

Well the more I 'delve' into this, I'm thinking its factory, as every bit of wiring is well under all the carpets, the 'boxes' I found are crossover units, it must have been a reasonable system for its day. My VW SEL has a Dynaudio system which looks similar, shame really as I'm practically...

    2.5 ton paperweight??

I like the extra battery idea, but don't think so due to all the 4 pairs of heavy speaker cables converging on the same area. It is one hellava retro fit however, must have been a major strip out as all these cables are UNDER the carpets & some even go side to side under the rear seats, &...
