I vaguely remember reading years ago that it was possible to fit the better heater matrix from a 90 into a Series 3 heater as an upgrade.

Is the Series 3 heater body getting hot when the engine is up to temp? Have you removed it and given it a flush. They seem to act like a cooling system filter and sludge up.

The breather on my Series 2 is located at 3 o'clock when looking at it from the outside of the vehicle.

The bolt threads are 7/16 UNF.

Check your throttle position sensor. If it doesn't correctly tell the ECU when your throttle valve is closed it won't activate the idle control valve.

You could try contacting Diesel Perfomance UK (DPUK). They're specialists in putting high torque diesel engines into interesting vehicles.
