serial no. for gear shift/reverse light switch

Wow, I could almost buy a donor vehicle for that amount. The refurb service sounds good, but I'm not in the UK, so it will require shipping and waiting for it to return. Will try to find one locally, I guess.

serial no. for gear shift/reverse light switch

Hi, My automatic gear-shift/reverse light unit is not working for some time now, and has been bypassed by my mechanic. This means that if I am not careful, I can start the car in any gear and also that I don't have reverse lights when I shift to R. Does anyone know the serial number of this part...

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Just a belated update on the overheating issue, I had to do some other repairs so I took the car to the mechanic (tried a new one this time). Among other things that he has done, he replaced the thermostat with a Bearmach 88C that I have bought online, cleaned up the Y-pipe that exits the...

Disco 1 PAS pulley shaft moving in/out freely.

Thanks Gazbo, Normally I would do so too, but the car was scheduled to go in for some other stuff this week (shocks, rear diff etc.) so I guess this will be just one more task for the mechanic. Only thing is that I will have to have it towed, but hopefully that will be covered by the insurance.

Disco 1 PAS pulley shaft moving in/out freely.

I didn't feel a wobble, but I can just pull the shaft with my hand in and out some 10cm. Also, looking at pics of the replacement part on the web, they don't even show the shaft as part of the pump. Could it have just lost a stopper of some sort?

Disco 1 PAS pulley shaft moving in/out freely.

No rest for the wicked I guess. Last week I replaced my serpentine belt as it was holding by a thread. Did not notice anything wrong w the pulleys though. This morning, while trying to take my 98 D1 for a short drive, I heard a strange noise and lost power steering. Turns out that the PAS pulley...

Disco 1 Recommendations re shocks anyone?

I will likely have a friend bring them over, as for some reason everything costs X2 or more here. I just need a link or a part number. Cheers

Disco 1 Recommendations re shocks anyone?

Thank you Gazbo. I agree, it's probably not woth spending an arm and a leg on shocks as they will all fail at about the same time, and are more often replaced than rebuild. I wonder if I should not change all 4 as the rear ones are old, likely on their way out, and I don't know how well the D1...

Disco 1 Recommendations re shocks anyone?

Thank you for this info Sirronluap. I too would like to know which exact Fox shocks are you using. Do you have perhaps a part number or a link for them? How long are they? Cheers Ady

Disco 1 Recommendations re shocks anyone?

Greetings, The front shocks on my 1998 disco are officially dead. I think they are an older model of Bilsteins (in black). The Disco is mainly used off-road, in rocky desert tracks etc. It is usually not loaded (driver+ maybe 100kg of equipment. probably less) The car is lifted by King...

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Ok, thank you so much for this input! I think I will first use a hand-held IR thermometer to compare my digital reading and the original gauge reading to various areas of the engine. Will then decide if I need a 3rd gauge. I will also replace the water pump and see if that works. Will report the...

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Looked a bit into waterless coolants. I don't think they help reduce the temperature (at least not by much). They do, however, prevent boiling (which should not happen at operating temperatures even with standard coolants) and reduce pressure and corrosion. On the other hand, they are expensive...

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Thank you so much Gazbo for this info. I have had the Disco overheat even on winter nights, when it is quite cool outside. There is a specific road which I travel a lot, which involves a 1000m ascent that takes about 40min with few flat stretches along the way. This is where I usually get the...

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Thank you Paul. I forgot to mention that the thermostat was replaced. I did not replace the water pump as there was no indication that it was not functioning well (not sure how to check). I will look into these things, but I still feel that I am missing something. Ady

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Greetings everyone, I have been a silent reader of this excellent forum for some time now, and have finally joined as a member. I have a 1998 TDi300 EDC Disco which I use almost exclusively for off-road driving (ok, also for the roads that get you to the off-road sites). It has 312,000km on it...
