    Alternator connections

Fantastic. The idiot-proof labelling is just what I need. Much appreciated.

    Alternator connections

I have a new alternator that I bought from Craddock's a couple of years ago which had the correct part number for a 200Tdi. The only screw connectors on the back are marked B+ and W. As far as my limited knowledge of alternators goes these are the battery connection and a connection for a...

    Swivel boots

Not as far as I know. I think some Series 1's had a leather gaiter. Opinion is divided on how useful they are. Once they inevitably split they just hold mud and water against the swivel ball and rot them even faster.

    Sealing 200Tdi Sump

I'd thought that too, but there's definitely oil coming out between the sump and the rear edge of the ladder frame where it drops down. I've marked where the oil is coming out on a photo of a ladder frame (not mine!). Maybe the oil just tracked along the face of the ladder frame when it was filled.

    LED Headlight Wiring Help

Yep, that site has been a godsend for me over the last few years, particularly for tracking down part numbers using the diagrams. To find info about other generations of Land Rover you just need to go to the Electrics menu, then select the year of your Land Rover, then 'Connector Library' and...

Thanks all. I'll try again and see how we go!

    LED Headlight Wiring Help

You should be able to get a rough idea of what a connector is for by looking up the wiring colours here: https://www.lrworkshop.com/connectors/defender-2012-2.2tdci/colour assuming yours is a TDCi. Looking at the blue wire with a yellow stripe it sounds like it's probably a connector for the...

    Sealing 200Tdi Sump

The Defender 200Tdi I'm rebuilding (very slowly) has been leaking oil over the garage floor despite not having even been run yet. I've tracked down the oil leak to the sump, which I took off and reassembled some time ago, and clearly made a pig's ear of it. I can see that the official guidance...

    Wanted Defender 200Tdi Air Box

That would be great. If you could message me with some photos once you're back we can discuss a price! I do have family in that vague area so might not have to resort to postage.

    Wanted Defender 200Tdi Air Box

Hi. I'm just after the air box itself. Mine has completely rusted through but the bracket is still intact. I'm up in Anglesey though, so not exactly local.

    1993 Defender 90 Rebuild

The trouble is, I've already done it once. Twice if you count the one I knackered trying to drive it in the first time! At £15 a pop it's an expensive habit.

    1993 Defender 90 Rebuild

Thanks. I'm still not 100% sure that the oil is coming from the rear crankshaft seal, but as the engine hasn't been run and flung oil everywhere I'm hoping that it will be relatively easy to trace. And I'll double-check the clutch plate when it all goes back together! I've also bought the...

New knocking noise on 1986 110

The studs are splined, but will rotate if they've not been pulled through enough. They should be flush with the back of the hub, so if you can see anything sticking out behind then they need pushing through, There's no reason to disturb them just to rebuild the hubs though.

    1993 Defender 90 Rebuild

I've done a few small jobs while I summon up the courage to deal with an oil leak between the gearbox and engine. First job was to remove the old battery box from the seat box. The old one was rusted through quite badly so I bought an aluminium job to replace it, although I haven't got as far...

    Bulkhead appendages

I'll check, but I'm pretty sure it's alright. There's a pipe bracket on the passenger side footwell too, which is the one I need. I think they probably cover every possible variant to save having too many different bulkheads

    Bulkhead appendages

Great, thanks. No idea what my loom was clipped to then, but I'll see what happens when it all goes back together.

    Bulkhead appendages

Another day, another photo with pointy arrows. What are these bits on my new galvanised bulkhead for? It's supposed to be a 200Tdi LT77 bulkhead but these brackets aren't on my old rusty one (unless they'd fallen off which is quite possible). There's another one on top of the passenger side...

    Painting intercooler pipe

I'm busy repainting all the rusty bits from the engine compartment and have got to this intercooler pipe (archive photo from before I dismantled everything and scattered it around my garage) How hot does this get in use? Should I be using a high temperature paint, and if so, will engine paint...

    1984 LR 90 what's my colour

I've heard that some early Nineties were painted in Series 3 colours, so could it be Marine Blue? It's always tricky to tell from photos though.
