P38A Thor Engined V8 Oil Consumption.

Just out of interest what was your driving style, and did you ever find out the reason?

P38A Thor Engined V8 Oil Consumption.

There doesn't seem to be any blowby. Valve stem oil seals were replaced 2 or 3000 miles ago. Valve stem oil seals don't have to bed in do they?

Compression is good on all cylinders. There is no pressure out of oil filler.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. If I accelerate very hard, at traffic lights for example, I can see smoke in the rear view mirror albeit briefly. I am currently using a Comma oil, X-flow Type SP 20W-50.

    P38A 4.6hse Exhaust

Mine has the centre silencer removed and it has gone through the MOT with several different garages over the years. One year the tester did put exhaust noisy on the advisories.

P38A Thor Engined V8 Oil Consumption.

Just a general enquiry to my fellow members. I use a 20W/50 mineral engine oil in my vehicle and it has around 145,000 miles on the clock and runs on LPG. Generally I use about a litre of oil every 1000 miles but if driven enthusistically the old girl uses alot more, probably twice what she...

    P38A Steering Drag Link.

Just to update you all. I bought a scissor splitter and I hold the old linkage off in 10 minutes, made the job so much easier I wish that I'd bought one years ago. The rod ends were in very poor condition, both or the rubber boots were damaged, as was advised on the MOT, the rod end at the...

    Makes sense.

I don't have a problem undoing the nut, and the angle grinder won't break the taper will it? Rather than beat the steering arm with a big hammer I've decided to buy a splitter and approach the task in a gentle manner.

Thanks Brian, I was thinking maybe two hammers but now you’ve said that I’ll invest in a scissor splitter. It’ll come in useful in my retirement.

    P38A Steering Drag Link.

Just a quick question gents. I've just bought a new drag link and was going to fit it tonight but rather than just rush in like I normally do I thought that I'd seek the advice of fellow forum members first. Normally to remove the tapered ball joint from the hub I would just give the hub a...

    P38A V8 Engine Condition.

It was definitely connected back up to a computer after the O2 sensors were fitted because the technician had to check that it was working closed loop but I’m almost sure that it was only checked on petrol. I’d better call the lpg man.

    P38A V8 Engine Condition.

The car had a K&N air filter fitted about 8000 miles ago, at the same time that the plugs were replaced, the gaps all looked good when I took them out at the weekend. Both O2 sensors were replaced about 7000 miles ago because when it was last put on a computer it was working open loop instead of...

    P38A V8 Engine Condition.

    Okay I’ve done the test again properly this time, thanks for the pointers Marshall, these are the numbers: cylinder 1 - 200psi, cyl 2 -190 psi, cylinder 3 - 200 psi, cyl 4 - 200 psi, cyl 5 - 180 psi, cyl 6 - 200 psi, cyl 7 - 180 psi, cyl 8 - 200 psi. Any thoughts people?

They weren't Mark. I started at 8 and went along that bank and then to 7 before finishing at 1. But I am going to retest over the weekend and do it according to sop.

    P38A V8 Engine Condition.

I probably did it incorrectly then. I took out one or two plugs at a time and pulled fuse 28 (30A) . I ran the starter for about 5 seconds which I think turned the engine through about 4 cycles, I didn't hold the throttle fully open either. I did wonder if I should pull something else to stop...

    P38A V8 Engine Condition.

Fellow forum members, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following: My car is a late 4.0litre Thor engined V8 fitted with a Prins VSI gas set up and is used as my daily driver. Anyway it's due a gas service soon and from the sooty deposits on the exhaust pipes I thought that it was probably...

I’m surprised that you say that Henry. Why do you suppose local specialists aren’t interested then?
