    Disco 2 Thinking of buying

Forgot to put on my last post - Don't forget a MOT test is the MINIMUM standard that a vehicle has to achieve to be roadworthy. So any rust, repairs, bodge jobs can be done so's just to allow 'Mr Jones' to keep driving it for 12 more months. 2-3 weeks later and it could all fall apart again...

    Disco 2 Thinking of buying

Well from what I can read of the MOT history in order V943 - Looks like it has already had to have some major welding to get it through its Nov 2014 MOT. That will need some looking / inspecting to see how / what has been done, if it has been done correctly & just not bodged to get it through...

    Bodywork question?

I'm after a new (second-hand) drivers side wing for my Discovery 1 on a 1997 plate. The majority of the ones I can find are for up to year 1994 and have the hole for the car radio antenna . Mine doesn't have the hole for the antenna as its in the rear window and these wings 1996-98 (oddly...

    V8 Engine health question

When you start it from cold, there's a tap tap tapping, coming from the middle top of the engine, which seems to disappear once the engine gets up to normal running temperature. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the cam & followers could be removed without removing the heads?

    V8 Engine health question

I have been assessing my V8 Discovery before starting to refurbish it fully. I've weighed up all the rusty bits, which if I'm honest there weren't many - 2 tiny patches right at the bottom of the rear wheel arches, slight surface rust on the chassis, driver inner door has a hole, that's it...

Disco 1 Front Door Lock barrel removal

Yes, you need to put the correct key into the barrel to line up the wafers correctly inside (from memory) otherwise it won't come out.

This tutorial is not for a Discovery lock but its the same principle

Disco 1 Front Door Lock barrel removal

I'd keep the old tumbler as a spare but as I said before be very careful when you take the key out of the lock as the wafers are spring loaded and WILL fly off along with the tiny little springs. (I took the key out in a plastic bag so I could catch everything). You can by swapping the wafers...

http://www.allfourx4.com.au/Barrel-and-Key-Right-Front-Drivers-Door-for-Land-Rover-Discovery-1-Aftermarket-RTC6689 Have a look at the pic on that site, you'll see what I mean, the little 'C' clip fits on the r/h/s :):):)

Disco 1 Front Door Lock barrel removal

From looking at that photo it does look like the 'C' clip I mean, if you get a screwdriver (or 2) one either side & push or tap it away it should pop off.

Disco 1 Front Door Lock barrel removal

To the rear (opposite end) where you red arrows are pointing should be a small 'C' clip that you will need to prise off with a screwdriver. Once you've done that put the key into the lock (this aligns the tumblers) then the inner barrel & tumblers should come out all in one. When you take out...

    Disco 1 Electrical gremlins

I been searching for while now for a new Multi-function unit, managed to get one from one of my dads old mates (he has a scrapyard) took the whole fuse box and white MFU off it. The truck it came off WAS running, until I butchered it, it was in because of dreaded tin worm. Everything electrical...

    Disco 1 Electrical gremlins

Wits end now really. From todays exploits I have found that 1. I now have all 4 doors switches working. :) 2. The diode IS working correctly - after testing it like Discool advised :) 3. There is no power whatsoever to pins 1 & 16 of the alarm box. So looking at this I then scratched me 'ead...

:(:(:(:(:( Well I took the diode off the circuitry this morning and tested it by 1. Setting my multi-meter to Ohms 2. testing the resistance both ways as stated. 3. Results were with the +ve at the front of the switch & -ve to the rear .677 4.repeated the test with leads other way around &...
