Just a thought but instead of removing the vcu and prop shafts when the vcu fails, can you not just drill a hole in the case and drain out the liquid? At least it would look OK even if it wouldn't drive the back wheels. Like I said "just a thought "

done a quick home made leak test, all 4 injectors were dripping at the same rate, all fairly well but nothing compared to the ones i removed, is there an amount per minute to check them acuratly?

Thats my problem, I am trying to eliminate the basics with minimal cost to decide on the landys fate. If it turns out to be a major problem I will probably get a donor engine, the more time I spend on it the more I like it lol. I am hoping its not a major problem as after 10 mins it runs great...

checked the glow plugs last night, all 4 are goosed! left them soaking in spray, 2 have come out, 1 broken (not sure if it is above or below the thread) and the other is solid. Feels like 1 step forward, 2 steps back. I will fit 2 new glow plugs and see if it improves the smoke issue, if it does...

Had a quick check between the rainext clouds, the glow plug heat light is not showing up on the dash at all. The 100amp fuse is good, can anyone help me with the location of the relay 166?

Its not cold (7 c) when i say smoke, i mean you cant see my house behind the car, mind you if all 4 glow plugs have failed, i will check them tomorrow.

its a b**ch to start, chugs n splutters, as it gets warmer you can start to rev it, once its warmed up it seems to run fine, my other td4 has 160k & runs sweet. i am wondering if its the injector pump which is struggling to get up to pressure, i just dont know where to start :(

Help needed, i recently aquired an 03 Td4 which i was gonna strip for parts, on arrival i found that the injectors were goosed (leak test took less than a minute to fill 2 of the bottles) sourced a replacement set of injectors and fitted them. I can now get the engine running but it coughs and...

I am about to fit a replacement set of injectors to my 2003 TD4, would you cover the new units with copper slip before fitting or fit them "clean". TIA

If it's a td4 then you have to remove the iRd box as there is a bolt holding the gearbox on behind it. I have seen it mentioned on previous threads.

Mine had a clunk due to the 4 bolts holding the rear sub frame up were slightly loose, the sub frame "knocked" when turning or bumps

Just a thought, i have a commercial freelander that the gearbox failed on, so i swapped gearboxs with a 2000 model, now the speedo doesnt work, nodge thinks it could be that the commercial didnt have abs but the 2000 model did, so it uses a different drive? Could this be an issue with yours?

Are you gonna put the hidden bolt back in? Thats the question?

Thanks, i think that may well be the answer, is it possible to add the drive gear via the top speedo housing or is it just not worth the hassle. I can use a sat nav for speed and you dont need the speedo for an MOT, it would just be better if it worked.
