hi, yes the brown is the earth and i was told that the black was only used on a td5 engine, i never got around to actually tring to fit it due to the gearbox throwing a wobbly, then finding that the fuel tank cradle had broken, then the sub frame bolts had snapped the captive nuts in the chassis...

Finally managed to get some time to change the oil on my 2003 td4, so warmed it up, removed filler plug, removed 14mm overflow plug (small amount of oil drained out) removed 24mm drain plug and approx 2 litres of oil drained out. So topped up via top filler, but only 2 litres went back in?? I...

I have tried all 3, and would go with option 2, make sure you spray gears cables etc with spray grease/copper slip etc

The seat catch is easy to see on the bottom corner nearest the door, I fixed some fishing line to mine to make a temp repair to pull and release the seat. The door lock I would just replace as I have found that you can free them up but the stop again fairly soon after. Best of luck

Pretty sure that you have to remove the ird as there is a bolt holding the gearbox on behind it on the diesel models. Good luck

Pretty sure that the rear diff is the same on a 1.8 petrol but not the drive shafts. You just pop old ones out, then pop your td4 one in. Sure one of the wise men will confirm. Good luck

I would do a leak back test on the injectors, kit from the web is under £20 and is easy to do. Rules them out at least

In my opinion (which probably counts for very little according to the wife) you have 2 options, reconditioned units approx £100 each or used from breakers. It depends on the value of your motor etc etc. i get mine from breakers, i try to get them from the rover 75 model rather than freelanders...

Hi, bit late to enter the saga, but i have just purchased a 2003 td4 that will not start unless you spray easy start down the air intake pipe. You can turn it over for hrs and it wont start. A 1 sec spray of easy start and it starts within 3 secs and continues to run fine. Might be worth a try...

i tried several of these methods without success, eventually went to the local rover garage and they coded 2 fobs for £40. trying these methods is free so good luck and post your results

Update, done a leak test, needed a bucket!!! injectors leaking from the seats up the shafts and dumping fuel out of the return lines for fun. 3 injectors came out fine, number 3 cylinder seizes solid, eventually pulled it out after 3 hrs after i borrowed a removal kit, the bore is completely...

Had a quick drive around the field and there is plenty of black smoke, going to make my own leak test kit, got 4 x 25ml bottles (pee sample bottles are free) and some tubing that i have left over from doing the brake air lines. Will keep you posted with the results :)
