    Sacrilege, but bear with me.

To be honest, that's what I was thinking when I drove it across the UK. It drove beautifully and made no untoward noises. It's been a very well looked after car. But it does have tinworm in the usual places. And I needed the running gear from a decent one. Lots of good stuff on it still.

Disco 1 donor procured as source for gearbox, TC and shafts. If anyone has a need for parts then I've just uploaded this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f62/discover-1-v8-auto-basically-breaking-284349.html

Discover 1 V8 Auto basically breaking.

I recently bought a Disco 1 as a donor for its transmission and Lt230 + drive shafts etc for my Rangie project. It's a one owner car and it drive immaculately. 124k on the clock and rot in the usual places but the engine was excellent as was the whole drivetrain. Very surprising. It has...

    Death wobble!?

This is a known Rangie issue and is caused by one of either three things: 1: worn bushes on the panhard rod. Often the right hand one as steering oil drops on it and rots out the inside. Looks fine on the outside but shot in the other side. 2: less common, the steering damper is kaput. Look...

    Sacrilege, but bear with me.

Thanks. It seemed bad removing what was basically a brand new interior but switching to the later trans tunnel means switching to the later seats and on top of that it's no more expensive to retrim the whole car in the colour I want if you are having to retrim a trans tunnel etc. So there's...

    Sacrilege, but bear with me.

Hi. Top of the dash is going back in. Had to remove the lot to get the trans tunnel out. Centre fascia and dash is likely to be spare along with the seats and all the grey trim.

Had a proper look at the engine. I knew it was a new RPI install but it has a big bore exhaust and bespoke manifolds, nice Weber Edelbrock also. It's certainly the nippiest 3.5 I've driven! Very, very smooth also. Has only covered a thousand miles tops.

Out of storage after 4 years. The new Nationwide interior has now been removed. As has the dash and the galvanised trans tunnel.

    Dash fascia removal.

What I've learnt is that as 89 was a changeover year one of the points of change was in fact the underside of the dash. The early 89 cars have a drip tray that is of a different design. Weirdly, mid 89 on and all plastic and wood dash fascias are interchangeable within minutes. Earlier, when...

    Dash fascia removal.

I'm looking to remove the fascia of the '89. The panel with the five air vents. I've done this several times on other classics with wood fascias and the panel just unscrews and comes away in less than five mins. This is the first time I've gone to do this with an earlier plastic fascia...

Shake rattle and hopefully not roll....

I'm the same. Mine are purely for road use and the 4 door has developed a small wobble around 55mph and also shimmies a bit more than it should. There is a bit of play on the offside panhard bush so I've just bought a replacement rod as its only about £40 and easy enough to just swap out. At...

Shake rattle and hopefully not roll....

I can see the advantage of poly bushes in the panhard of you are doing a lot of heavy work and wearing out rubbers as they are easy to continuously replace and the vehicle isn't likely to be 100% focusses for road use. For the latter I would rather stick with rubber and just replace the whole...

Shake rattle and hopefully not roll....

I was just adding to my earlier post. Seemed logical last night. Looks a bit mental this morning. :)

Have you checked the bushes on the panhard? If they are worn they can cause issues similar to what you seem to be describing.

Shake rattle and hopefully not roll....

The desire to follow the truck ruts is normally a geometry issue. The rattle, I assume it's that 5 second judder through the whole front that can usually be triggered by a modest pothole or road imperfection?

    Changing drive ratios

    300. I really don't know what you are going on about. Who said cams change rpms!!! That's a farcical observation. And clearly you are not up to speed on modern auto boxes and how to tune and manage changes via third party TCUs. Trust me, you can get them to talk well enough for street racing...

    Changing drive ratios

But I've never said it was stronger! Merely stated that the Disco carried on using the LT when the Rangie changed in the mid/late 80s to the smoother BW that was perceived as a differentiator between the two products and where they were placed in the market. The LT230 is stronger than the BW...

    Changing drive ratios

Yup. I was referring to the LT230 TC as opposed to the 1:1 ratio. I was just rereading my post and thought it was misleading. They retained the LT230 in the Discos to keep a clear separation between the two products as they took the RR upmarket.

    Changing drive ratios

Hi James. Hope all is well. Are you saying the the BW is adjustable? I was sure there wasn't a simple solution to changing the ratio as there is with the Lt230? This would obviously be the solution of the case.

    Changing drive ratios

Borg Warner, as per original post. The actual need for high low is irrelevant. Again, as stated in original post, it is a road car. LT230 is stronger but noisier but has the advantage of having an off the shelf 1:1 option. It was used in plenty of 80s Rangies and much later in the Discos...
