    Britpart do it again...

Agree 100%. My PO used gas (as in Camping Gas) hose to repair a fuel line. It went as solid as rock and, not surprisingly, began to p*ss diesel everywhere as soon as it was flexed during some gentle off-road trips. Probably best to spend 25p on the proper stuff?

steering rods , drag link and tracking ..

Well done for persevering and Doing-It-Yourself. I was short of time and took mine to a well known tyre 'n tracking franchise to do it. They couldn't undo the pinch clamps so heated up the whole area, both sides, with a torch, melted the nylon out of the nuts and annealed the rod. Then...

    Defender heater blowers stopped working

Yes, but traced to a jammed impeller. Not likely in your case but worth taking the cover off and giving it a spin? You don't say why you replaced the old one, but were the switches working prior to the swap? Check the resistor...troublesome as it's inside the heater box...but mine was so...

Fir tree fixings and windscreen pillar handles

You could always modify a side step to fit the sliders. I've done this for the same reasons as you want a grab handle, and it works a treat - just remember to remind Her to fold it up if going Knarly. If it's Extremely Knarly, it doesn't take long to remove completely (with a spanner, as opposed...

    AO Stratford September 2019

Not seen many reports from this event. I've been a regular for some years but didn't go this autumn. Get the impression it's running out of steam....what's the feeling here?

Austria to Portugal Via Pyrenees - 6500km - Spare Parts Taken for 300tdi

We were coming off the motorway and (trying) to slow down at the slip. Luckily the traffic was light and no-one too close in front, or the story wouldn't have been happy. As it was, standing - and I mean standing - on the brake pedal slowed us sufficiently to regain control and after that it...

Austria to Portugal Via Pyrenees - 6500km - Spare Parts Taken for 300tdi

Lucky You...or Unlucky Me. Our trip this year in a well-prepped vehicle and a boxfull of spares had us stuck in Belgium for 3 days with a knackered vacuum pump and an enforced overnight stop back in the UK, on the way home, to replace a front propshaft joint. We had spares for the latter and...

    110 Special Vehicle Campervan query

To echo some of the comments above, a camper conversion tends to a "special" to the converter. In other words, they'll do it to a standard and budget that suits them or pay someone to do it to their spec. If you've done something other than what they might do themselves- given the time, money...

    Old Question... New Answers Please!

I've used Discoverer STT and BFG AT. I prefer the former for offroad and sand but the BFGs for normal road. Only used 265s though, so narrower versions will perform differently and might change my view.

    Replacing Rear Shock Bushes

Old bushes come out easily once you've set 'em on fire. Stop the shock rotating with a chain ratchet or something similar.

    Sills, steps & sliders...

If your sliders are the normal type you can modify the standard LR steps to fit between the tube and the sill. These can be made to be removeable but in that case they tend to ride up after a rugged offroad session and prevent the door from opening. If it's the passenger door, you can go to the...

Going off grid & advice on power set up

FWIW we've eventually fitted 2 aux batteries that run the fridge (Engel) and lights etc when off grid. In France this year, with bright sunshine between, say, 10 and 4, the 100w solar panel was managing to keep the batteries up to coping with the loads placed on the fridge in 35 degree heat for...

    Rock slider sill protectors

The standard side steps can be modified to fit the situation you've got. Put a plate on the top of the slider and long bolts down into the holes in the step mounts. As long as they're folded they don't create much of a problem for normal off-road use, although we've had one mangled in Morocco.

Rivnut vs Pop Rivet ... and what metal

Rivnuts! Hate 'em. Useful and sometimes the only way to get a firm fix in a blind hole, but can you guarantee that it's set tightly enough? Having to cut/drill them out when the screw "spins" them is a sod....
