Freelander 1 DAB - is it all it is cracked up to be??

The DAB on my Pioneer I fitted to the FL1 works great in most places. I replaced the roof aerial with a powered DAB one. I managed to find one that fitted almost perfectly in the two holes that are under the existing aerial base. (There is the main 10mm or so hole, and a seperate key of about...

    Fix or chuck

And buy someone else's set of problems... The hit you would have to take in selling yours with the current fault, would mean you'd have to spend more money to get something that 'appears' not to have faults. You'd be better spending that extra money fixing what you have. The Kalahari spec is a...

Freelander Rear Parcel Shelf? An easy fix.

Certainly a lot cheaper than the original LR part, which are now as rare as hens teeth. (and pre-facelift cup holders!)

    Freelander TD4 OEM+

with that echo, it is a big difference! - another job for my list!

What have you done to your Freelander today

Passed MOT - no advisories : 2003 TD4 with 101k on clock :-) @Lukas, I like the idea of the swapping in an MG rear view mirror with the lamps. I just checked on mine and can see the cutouts for where the lights would go. Could certainly do with a version that has the lights, for that one...

    Freelander TD4 OEM+

(at the risk of thread jacking) Fantastic pictures and certainly an inspiration. If only I can get some time and money to spend on just a few of those mods. How much difference has the sound proofing made? I've noticed that whenever I take off a panel in the hippo there is always metal visible...

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Leather steering wheel looks great. I see I'm not the only one that has a 'PINGI' bag behind the cupholders to help keep the mist away!

Freelander 1 TD4 Freestyle 2006: fit steering wheel with audio controls

Worked ok before with what though? The switches in the steering wheel are a simple resistor ladder. When pressed they create a specific voltage that controls the Land Rover (which I think are Philips made) stereos. To have the controls work with another make of stereo you'll need a converter...

    stop solenoid ?

As Nodge says, don't run it again until its been looked at. This video might make you want to not start it again until sorted... Jim

Freelander 1 TD4 Freestyle 2006: fit steering wheel with audio controls

+1 on what Nodge says. You can just fit the switches to your existing wheel if you want. Or just change the whole wheel to save cutting holes. Dead simple to do. Disconnect the battery and leave for a good half hour or more to let the airbag discharge. Then remove the two screws accessible from...

    Tailgate,, Again,,, Sorry

Good to hear it is sorted! Always to read a thread that has the OP update on what the problem was and how it was solved.

Freelander 1 Can I remove the tailgate trim with door closed? Handle Replacement.

As others have said its likely to be either the switch or the loom in the door/pillar. If it's the switch, you can get to the loom quite easily, by taking off the two screws for the numberplate light, and sliding the module out (by the looks). Then it should reveal a connector that goes to the...

Smoke from under LH fronf wing

It is making me tempted. The misty windscreen is irritating in these wet/cold winter months. What kind of maintenance do those little Webasto FBHs need? I've seen there are some older threads on here about fitting them. From what I can see it seems as if the hoses are the most difficult bit to...

Smoke from under LH fronf wing

This is what the remote on the pre-facelift looked like. (as others have suggested, you could do it much cheaper with something else nowadays. I'm sure Maplin would have something that can control a relay remotely). I don't have the FBH on mine, but at this time of year, thinking about it as...

Freelander 1 TD4 Freestyle 2006: fit steering wheel with audio controls

I think they all have the wiring present. It goes from the coupler in the steering wheel, (under the airbag), to the connector at the rear of the stereo. When I replaced the bog standard steering wheel in my 2003 model, with the multifunction steering wheel, all I had to do was connect the...

    2001 Td4 a damp issue ...

On the 3-door I've had problems with the seal to the hard top leaking. Turned out the roof just needed taking off and all the seals cleaned of grit, grit and mould. Obviously you don't have that problem. So... Likely causes are a leaking tailgate seal, which is a known problem. Look for water...

Freelander 1 Howls during first half a mile when cold

Yep, I think so too. For when you turn the blower on, in the dark you can see the headlamps dip slightly as the current starts to rush through those resistors when starting from cold. I believe the PTC was standard on all the TD4s that didn't have the Fuel Burning Heater fitted, which mine...

Freelander 1 Howls during first half a mile when cold

Thanks for the suggestion about the FBH fan. Although it's a TD4, there is no FBH on my vehicle. I think at the time (2003) it was only fitted to the top spec models or as an extra. BTW, when I say cold, I mean the car not having been driven for a few hours, not necessarily the ambient...

Freelander 1 Howls during first half a mile when cold

Thanks. Rear diff is ok oil wise, as I have a slow leak, and keep it topped up, until I have the time to change the seals. (Which turned up last week from Rimmers). I'll double check gearbox and IRD though. No obvious leaks around them, but worth checking the oil I put in them in the summer...
