Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

The wait is over! The tub is off! I've now got loads more stuff to do! Not too many rust problems underneath so far. Could clean up nicely. Then as usual it started to rain..... On the "seats" of my tub I have one tool space with a hinged lid and one...

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

This bloody tub has got to move!! At least the seat box is off now. The strange switch for the two petrol tanks: don't know if I'll keep them when I rebuild but they do amuse me! Found some more bolts between the chassis and tub. Excitement..... Must keep these bits, I'm sure that...

Screwy bits which hhold the lenses on...

Cheers James but I've got the lens. It's the holder that you fix to the bodywork I need.

Screwy bits which hhold the lenses on...

Can anyone tell me what you call the screwy metal bits which hold the brake light lenses on. And can you buy them because I need 10 as all were rusted and needed cutting off.

What is this piece of paperwork for my landy?

Found one in my '83 109. It had all the paintwork changes as it was a military vehicle. Very interesting as I was able to trace the "original" colour under the 7 layers which I have removed before repainting her. My paperworkwork has gone in the old girls archives along with the used shell...

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Found another bullet casing whilst taking the seat box out. More evidence of the old girls chequered past!

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Another big gap between posts. Life dunt arf get in the way of fixing stuff! Will post a proper series of pictures next week when I get the time but have had a good day sorting out my tailgate. It was bent twisted, multi-coloured and covered in 3 cm of concrete. Loads of hydrochloric acid got it...

No, I do two coats of the white stuff which is for ali and then a top coat of red ox. The bronze green I've got seems to take better to the red than it does to the white. I only do this cos it seems to work. Please tell me if I'm being dim, before I go any further!!!!!!

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Too much work to do recently so finding time to tinker very limited. But I have managed to have a go at one of the wings: And after much fiddling, grinding and removing of paint got to this: I've also had a go at the catflap, stripped it back as best I could. Took the glass out Took the lock...

Lights then came out. Rusty plate stopping me getting to the lights. Exposed wiring. Almost clear. Everything off, including paint and filler, exposing quite a large rip in the metal work. Looking cleaner but still not sure how to get it off!!! OK, it's now as free as I can...

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Had a spot of lunch and carried on. Decided to have a go at removing the tub. Rather than do it all in one go I thought that I'd take it off bit by bit. So I started here. Got the capping off. And all down the sides. Now for this weeks big question: I keep taking all these...

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Had a good afternoon trying to strip a bit more back. Tried to get the bulkhead off, easier said than done. Got the retaining plate off first. Then got the nut off the big holding bolt. Removed all the bits still connected including the brake pipes. Got one side off but the other was...

Cheers Sam, that all makes sense. I won't clean it all out before repainting!!! :o

I've got lots of bits of filler all over my bulkhead. But when I clean it back there is no rust or damage?! Was a previous owner over cautious or did the military have a habit of daubing filler everywhere?

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Then the rain stopped and I could go out and play! Decided to take the sides and roof off as I'm getting close to taking the tub off. With the roof off I got a brighter view of inside the cab. Only a few screws and bolts, so I might as well take some more bits off to clean down and repaint...

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Started off a bit wet today so got some jobs done in the garage. Cleaned the brake master cylinder: Sorted out the clutch. And gave the servo a new coat of paint. I even had the chance to wash down and polish my seats!!
