    P38A Sat Nav Question

If your Mk3 is from an L322 I'm not sure the firmware is compatible with the data feed from the P38's system as I have exactly the same problem with my original Mk3 thats now got L322 firmware on it. I have a normal BMW mk3 which works ok apart from having BMW on it, and the set menu becomes...

    P38A Sat Nav Question

Mk3 nav computer included the trimble device which was seperate on the Mk2, when upgrading from Mk2 to Mk3 the normal practice is to find this trimble device under the right boot trim and remove the small round aerial lead and and plug it directly into the Mk3. According to my copy of Rave the...

To chip or not to chip, that is the question

Each to their own, on my old P38 we changed it put the wrong stuff in "it'll be reet" and the car was certainly different far more mechanical drag and economy dropped a couple of mpg, changed it again and she was back to her old self. What i'm getting at is rather than finding a vehicle that...

    replacement key & fob

The only option for a new key for a P38 is through the dealer, assuming its a P38 you are talking about. If you have a damaged none working key it can often be repaired or the data extracted from it. There is little point having your existing key copied as you will end up with two of the same...

To chip or not to chip, that is the question

Did they check the calipers for seized pistons? What about Diff oil and UJ's? Its worth checking through the drive train properly. You could also check the viscous coupling is performing as it should.

    P38A Sat Nav Question

I must admit I'm still having difficulty with my navigation, after getting my original nav computer repaired, it lasted a few days and now cannot find its self, but I cannot get into the set menu as its got the wrong firmware on it... I have since put my E39 Mk3 unit back in which works fine...

To chip or not to chip, that is the question

I would say and I know we all bash the diesel for being a bit slow that there is something wrong with it. Rather than a chip to mask problems get it properly looked at. Try and compare with another p38 if you can. When was the diff oil last changed? Daft as it is if it's got no oil or the wrong...

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

Well they might be from an electronics and engine/gearbox point of view but vehicle archiecture and design, suspension, air suspension, brakes and most of the interior is all Land Rover. I admit the dash cluster and seat controls, steering column movement is straight from the BMW parts bin but I...

    Just looking for opinions...

Well thats it, can't take it with you. I'm at the other end of the scale, my little one is 6 months old and begining to find the 650i isnt very practical (not bad but will get worse when he changes car seats!) so bought another P38 as a family car but now work considering a new Navara as a...

    Just looking for opinions...

28 cruising?! I've never seen better than 22. The 5.0 SC should at least match the P38 if not better it as its a modern engine and a modern gearbox etc. I would do as you suggest and agree a price before hand otherwise you'll be feeling sorry for your self after youve fallen in love. I would...

    Just looking for opinions...

5.0 SC all day long. No contest. If you have to have a dirty oil burner try and get a 4.4 (id have thought one would be in budget if youve got circa 20-25 for the 5.0 SC

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

D2... well youve either a wheezy TD5 or a similar V8 to the P38 (obviously the one to go for!!). It will be a mixture of paint and rust, very little steel left in it. I think they drive OK if they have ACE fitted but it can cause its own problems. No diff lock just traction control on some of...

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

X5's have their own issues, rear tyre wear is often awful due to a mixture of bad tracking, agressive driving and worn bushes. But rarely expect more than 5k from a set before its rubbed the edges of. Gearboxes can be weak unless had a service, usual electrical issues like battery drain from...

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

Personally the only engine for a Range Rover is a petrol V8, the performance is night and day compared to a diesel, get a post 99 Thor engined V8 and its surprisingly swift. As for the reliability issues, and the gas boys wont like it, but most of the ones that give real big trouble are on...

P38A Well... Here we are again.

BTW 99 Vogue? Show us some more pics :). You should get a few quid a wheel at scrap for those when you change them to a factory 18" 's ;)
