Series 3 Is my propshaft barking?

Hello, on a long road trip yesterday I noticed a sound like a small dog barking (or a bird chirp) coming from under the Landy just about where the front seats are. It happened on the overrun down hills with foot off of the accelerator. Got underneath this morning and noticed I can twist the...

Series 3 No main beam flash

Thanks for help on this, old vehicles certainly have their 'own' characteristics

Series 3 No main beam flash

It was a fuse (I think). Took it out, gave it a clean and then it started working.

Series 3 No main beam flash

Many thanks tottot and Blackburn, I will get a look at both - the fuses and the stalk switch contacts tonite (while its still daylight).

Series 3 No main beam flash

Hello, I am relatively new to Land Rovers having bought my series III just 9 weeks ago. All has been well and I must say it seems a very unmolested and genuine vehicle, but it is 42 years old. So, what happened tonite has got me puzzled. The is no main beam flash when the stalk is pulled...

Series 3 Swivel Hubs full of grease

Many thanks Stretch, I am slowly learning about historic Landys. I'll get some more one shot and top them up.

Series 3 Swivel Hubs full of grease

Hello, my Land Rover owning career now spans 4 weeks since I bought a 1975 S3. So, as a precaution against previously bad maintenance I have given it a full lub service. Engine, gearbox, transfer box all fine, both differentials full but oil very black. However, the swivel hubs seem to be...

Series 3 Starter solenoid kill switch

Hello, I bought a Series III a fortnight ago (1st Land Rover I've owned) and want to put a kill switch in. Am I correct in thinking a switch in the starter solenoid (red/white) feed wire from the ignition switch would work? It's petrol by the way.

    Fitting Cobra Immobiliser

Hello I know this is an old thread but I really could do with a hand fitting a cobra 8510 to my 300TDi. I have it all wired in except for the 1's and the 2's. The way I think it works is that the #1 wires go to the stop solenoid and a cut is then made between the two connections (at least 30cm...

    VIN Code query

Don't think it was - the VIN plate behind the windscreen and the Vin plate inthe engine bay both match and the rest of the code matches the vehicle - a 2002 RHD 5 speed Defender 90. Besides it came from a reputable dealer 2 weeks ago and all the V5 stuff matches up. I wonder if it started...

    VIN Code query

Hi, just purchased a 90 Td5 and have checked the VIN closely - I was expecting to see a value of '8' in the eigth digit to signify engine type 'Td5'. However the value in that field is '5' - and all of the VIN decoders the engine values seem to go 1,2,3,6,8,9 - no mention of 5 and what 5...

    2002 Defender 90 Steering Wheel

Nice one - so it looks like it really is a Td5. Is the engine number on the block stamped on top of the exhaust manifold?

    2002 Defender 90 Steering Wheel

Thats what I thought too - according to www.clifton.nl/calvin.html my landy is a Defender, 92.9 inch wheelbase, 2 door van, with engine type 2.5 ltr Td5 (EU5 spec), RH drive, 5-speed manual, year 2002 made in Solihull. What on earth is a EU5 spec engine?

    2002 Defender 90 Steering Wheel

Ratty - spot on it's a Type C. Many thanks, my first lesson in getting to know the various LR nonmenclature. Now - for your next challenge (if you choose to accept it) - what does 5 mean in the VIN at digit position eight - the engine type? Been looking but can't find % anywhere.

    2002 Defender 90 Steering Wheel

It's a one piece molded thing with a prise out oval landrover badge in the middle. I did a bit of googling and found a part on BritParts ref NRC 7636 - indicator cancelling ring. Its got two prongs that are supposed to mesh with the blue collar on the indicator/lights/horn module. Trouble...

    2002 Defender 90 Steering Wheel

Hello I just bought my first Landrover - small problem - the indicators won't self cancel. Took the steering wheel off and there is a blue collar in the combi indicator/deadligh/horn module. I was expecting to see some 'prongs' in the back of the steering wheel to fit into the cut outs in...
