    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Cheers Dag. I’ve got the cappings, I’m going to try and get a colour match on the paint and redo the doors. Will sort the cappings out then. Sadly the tub cappings have been painted. Might have to take them off and get them stripped and galvanised again. Never owned a Land Rover before and...

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Well finally after a bit of messing about and painting the doors the wrong colour, the S3 is topless with series doors fitted. Dead happy with it all mind and it was a learning curve regarding brush painting. Undercover Covers canvas on order and a set of hood sticks too.

Cheers Rubins. The hinge to bulkhead has the shim, but there wasn't one between the hinge and door when I removed the defender doors. I'm guessing it is the same part as the parts manual shows there isn't one?

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Well after a bit of a break to play with steam engines, I finally got round to test fitting the series doors that Paintman Panels supplied, along with anti-burst locks and paint. So far only near side completely mocked up and off side just the door on pretty happy with it all. A truck cab has...

    SWB re-chassis

No.5 - the jack in my S3 was found user the passenger seat in the tool compartment(?) along with the wooden handle. No idea where the two metal sections of handle go as too long for that box. On the bulkhead behind the rear seats I have mountings for a starting handle. Can only assume the jack...

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

So the next stage of making the S3 our own is to fit Series doors. I have someone lined up for the Defender doors. If anyone has a nice set of Series doors for sale, let me know otherwise it will be off the shelf items. Do any of you guys have any preferences as to who to buy the door bottoms...

Cheers Dag, will keep an eye out. I think the next project will be sorting the gearbox synchro, but that can wait till this winter. Tailgate and truck cab/ tilt roof first as well as fit the bench seats.

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Yeah I reckon that’s probably the best way forward. Anyway, have you had anything to do with 3rd gear synchro?

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

I would if I ended up spraying it. It would be better than painting it until it could be properly done. It’s had a repair at some point as the vertical centre strip has been welded top and bottom.

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Cheers John. That looks good but might be a bit too bright to go with the rest of the windscreen frame. I think the whole lot really could do with being galvanised again as I’d either end up spraying the whole thing or just have random silver patches...

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

Well having sorted the brake test circuit thanks to Extreedoc, it wasn’t plugged in to the relay, I decided to change gearbox and transfer box oil. Overdrive oil was new having just been overhauled. Pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t leaking into the transfer box either. Since buying the S3...

    Advice pleas

Dumb irons are the section of chassis that hold the shackles. The shackles are the links between the spring and the dumb irons/ chassis.

    series 3 petrol starting issues

Just read through this thread as I am suffering intermittent starting issues on my '82 SWB 2.25 petrol. Starts on the handle fine, but every now and then the dreaded click. Will start with a wiring overhaul and then move on to mechanical bits once that has all be proven. New solenoid and battery...

Mini restoration of my 75 Series 3

Pneumatic riveters are the way forward. We just re-did the roof on my friends 1941 AEC Matador. I reckon the pneumatic riveter saved us 6 to 8 hours work and also got a nice solid fit on all the rivets. They were M5 as well. Would love to see some pictures when you get round to doing it please...
