90 rebuild and striping the donor vehicle

Im planning on rebuilding my 300tdi 90 CSW at some point but i want to keep it on the road as long as possible as its my daily drive, so i bought myself a discovery to use as a donor vehicle. The plan is to strip the disco down and scrap/sell everything apart from the axles, engine, gearbox...

    Another rebuild, Td5 90

Why the Allen key style bolts? Donyou normally use them throughout your rebuilds? I have always found that they get full of crap and become a bugger to get off.

My veg oil conversion - update

It's a 25L marine fuel tank. I just sits in the back where one of the rear seats used to be. I'm planning on fitting a td5 rear fuel tank at somepoint tho.

My veg oil conversion - update

That looks like a nightmare. I run a standard twin tank system on mine and it work perfectly well, this seem like a lot of effort. My landy starts on diesel, and once the engine is warm after about 5miles or so I flip it onto veg. Then once I need to stop (for an extended period) I switch it...

    300tdi anti freeze and flush

I'd go buy a new heater matrix mate, they are only about £30 and can make a big difference. It's not a bad job to do either, there are plenty of instructions on the internet if you need help.

    Suspension recommendation

I'm thinking of putting a terrafirma lift kit on my rebuild. I was thinking of buying the full 2" kit. Somthing like this one http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=181219759469

    windscreen removal??

I just thought it would be easier. I guess I could just leave it in the frame and just cut above a below it once I get my hands on an angle grinder. I'm planing on choping the body shell up to get rid of it anyway

    windscreen removal??

i don't need to save the trims tbh because I'm scraping all the body, but ill give it a go at the weekend and see how i get on. thanks for the offer mate but i don't need it out in one piece tbh so if needs be ill just smash it out. atm I'm just trying to avoid making a mess lol

What tools/equipment can't you live without?

some good idea's here. iv already got a snap on impact gun but it needs a new battery as it doesn't hold it charge, i think that will be my first purchase :) and a new compressor and my is rubbish. then an angle grinder and a cutting tool. iv already got my fair share of sockets, spanners...

    windscreen removal??

removing the 4 filler strips and just pushing it out sounds too easy which is never the case with a landy :)

What tools/equipment can't you live without?

As the title says, what tools/equipment can't you live without? I'm going to spend a bit of cash on some new tools soon in preparation for my rebuild so I'm looking for some ideas, currently I'm striping down the doner vehicle so I was wondering what everybody's essentials are before I start...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (Round 2)

I picked up a tidy 1998 disco with 120k on the clock for £500, it still has an MOT too, so there are some bargains out there. I'm going to try and sell what I don't need to recoupe some money too.

Iv recently moved down south due to work and I'v just started to rebuild my 90 so I'm after a somwhere in this area that sell parts etc as I don't want to mess about ordering stuff online and it being the wrong part. Does anybody know of anywhere in this area that supplies parts...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (Round 2)

Thanks for the info, I think I'll just rear what needed too, hopefully going to strip the disco down to a rolling chassis over the next week so I'll be able to see what condition everything is in. Great thread anyway. Keep it up

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (Round 2)

Also, do you use any primer before the rustoleum or just slap it straight into the axle after it's been cleaned up?
