Freelander 1 Water leak (I can see steam)

Thanks for the replies. Yes it's a 2002 TD4...Is the water pump in the same place on that engine? Looking last night I think it's coming from somewhere quite high up...Could be the return to the fill tank I guess. I'll try to have a closer look today Fritz

Freelander 1 Water leak (I can see steam)

Ok, so the latest problem with my Freelander 1 is what I believe to be a water leak. Usually I lose no oil or water. Oil is still good but I'm losing some water and can see steam. When I say losing water think 150 ml over a 150 mile journey. So with the bonnet open I can see steam (I think...

Freelander 1 Low (ish) Engine Temp After Turbo Replacement

Hi Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, usually it sits dead centre of the gauge and then fluctuates slightly (I assume as the thermostat opens and close or the fans kick in/ switch off). I think I see your point though; it's not just low as in 80 instead of say 90. It's low as in somewhere below...

Freelander 1 Low (ish) Engine Temp After Turbo Replacement

So since I changed the turbo on my 2002 TD4 the engine seems to be running slightly cooler. Normally it sits half way up the gauge with minor ups and downs but since I changed the turbo it sits at about 1/3 of the way up. Now when I removed the intercooler to clean it I also cleaned all the...

Freelander 1 What's This Lead & Plug Please?

Hey guys thanks loads. All back together again now and she runs smoother than ever!!!! Blown turbo lead to me finding LOTS of other little bits and pieces that needed attention (poor maintenance on my part TBH) so real happy I finally got it all done. Would I attempt to replace the turbo...

Freelander 1 What's This Lead & Plug Please?

Hmm...So...It's not the oil pressure sensor (that's still connected) so I'm none the wiser. There doesn't seem to be anything local for it to connect to but it is very clean internally so looks like it was connected to something. Fritz

Freelander 1 What's This Lead & Plug Please?

Thanks for the tips....fbh is fuel Burning Heater? If so I don't have one (I don't think!!). Yes it's a TD4. Oil Pressure sensor could well make sense as have had the intercooler etc out and from the description I assume its near to where the hose attaches

Freelander 1 Trying to Trace Turbo Failure Cause & Cleaning the Inlet Manifold

Hi thanks for all the replies. So a good soaking in unleaded then a jet wash seems to have done the trick. Finally getting it all back together, might even get it started again this afternoon. Still unsure what lead to my turbo failure though. I've checked everything I can and replaced oil...

Freelander 1 Trying to Trace Turbo Failure Cause & Cleaning the Inlet Manifold

So having now replaced the turbo (for those that have seen the other thread it was the clips on the oil return that was holding it in place!!) & not having found a likely cause yet I've started stripping back parts to check their state. Quickly found that the EGR valve was gunked up & also the...

    Freelander 1 2002 - Turbo Failure?

So finally getting around to this job by following this guide. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/how-to-change-turbo-on-a-td4.221780/#post-2510752 A friend and I are doing it and we've completed every step except step 11 as couldn't find the two bolts. The guide says they actually did...

    Freelander 1 2002 - Turbo Failure?

Hi Digby Thanks for the reply. TBH I was going to replace the intercooler hoses anyway because the inlet at least (I can't reach the return) is feeling quite squashy. Is there other pipework I should be cleaning too? And I was thinking of flushing the intercooler with it in place? I was...

    Freelander 1 2002 - Turbo Failure?

hey thanks for the quick reply. I'm hoping I can simply replace the unit as a whole as I've found some instructions on how to do that without dropping the IRD. One thing I found out this morning after doing some more investigating. I got a local garage to change the crank case filter a couple...

    Freelander 1 2002 - Turbo Failure?

Well since my recent clutch/ gear linkage issues have been resolved my hippo has been running well......very well in fact so I knew that in probability there was a problem looming... Its a 2002 Freelander 1 GS TD4. So here's what's happened. For about 2 weeks I've noticed a very slight whine...

    How Do I Remove a 2002 TD4 gearbox Linkage

So I finally got some time to take a closer look at my gear selection issue (can't engage 1st; 3rd; or 5th). I popped the two ball joints off the mechanism where it connects to the gearbox and can manually select all gears. Popped them back on again and can't select 1st; 3rd ; or 5th again...

Gearbox Issue? Or the new clutch?

Hey Freelance, thanks for the reply. I'm struggling to find this in Rave. If I drop the belly pan will the linkage become obvious? Is there any section that is particularly prone to failing? Fritz BTW I should have said this is an 02 TD4 so it's the Getrag gearbox I guess? Not sure if...

Gearbox Issue? Or the new clutch?

So suddenly (and I mean suddenly) I can't get my Freelander into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear? 2nd 4th & Reverse I can get though. There was no rough running or early warning signs. Parked up on the drive fine then couldn't select any of the above but can still select 2nd 4th & reverse I had a new...

    Caliper Slide Pin Removal

Well that was fun......Took a bit of everyones advice and finally got it shifted After the small thermo nuclear explosion created through heating an drenching the pin started to turn; only about a quarter turn but it was movement. It also added the added benefit in that I no longer need that...

    Caliper Slide Pin Removal

Hey thanks for the replies guys. @Teddy I'm going to give the extreme heat route a try in the morning after a thorough soak in Plusgas. Do you mean leave the retaining screw in and turn that instead of the actual pin? @TD4, thanks for the part number. Seems worse case I'm looking at a further...
