just bought a 1994 300 TDI 90, the guy said the previous owner to him put a boost pin into the engine to boost performance. When i am driving normally there is no smoke, but on first start up and when i first start to accelerate when moving off or changing gear i get a big black puff of smoke...

I know but I think I was just worried I hadn’t bled it correctly and that it was hotter than normal, but took it for a good drive and the temp gauge read normal and the fans blew hot air. Just being paranoid

Should have said I painted the silver chequer plate blue to match the rest of the body, I will see how long my shoddy painting lasts

Transformation complete, looks a lot better in black, I also prefer the sleeker look without the snorkel etc.

Alive tuning have nationwide garages that are “approved” by them that run their maps, I am taking mine to my nearest one which is a 3 hour round trip which I think will be worth it

Made a start to changing the colour of the front end grille and light surrounds, also fitted an A bar to shift the lights onto, bit of a pain trying to line up the bolts and have now realised I have to fit the lights to it before I fit the A bar so going to have to do it all over again, not...

Thanks dag019, I might try and paint the chequer plate in blue and see how it looks, if it looks crap will paint them black. have put an offer in on a second hand A frame on flebay. How easy is it painting the headlight surrounds etc?

I also wonder about the grille and light surrounds being silver, I think they would look better black. What do you lot reckon?

Thanks for all the replies, the chequer plate is a contentious issue for me because I don’t like it but I am constantly throwing tools on them and don’t have to worry about scratching the wings, had thought about painting them but then would they look tatty quickly as the paint would get...

i am not doing this to sell it, this is my own vehicle i hope to have for a long time. just want it the way i like it and not have the add on's that someone else put on it.

For me it looks a bit OTT, I am never going to drive it through the desert or do any deep wading. I am trying to strip it back a bit (previous owner had put a fair bit of extras on it) to get it looking a bit more original and IMO a bit smarter. Yes it was a Mantec snorkel

Do you think it would look daft if I put a couple of stainless rivnuts on the windscreen holes with stainless bolts? Would clean up the corrosion and paint first
